PSG (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Absolutely. If there is anyone that can return us to our previous levels, it is Pep.

Nobody else in the world I'd rather have at the helm. Pep has made mistakes, and he will make mistakes. He's a stubborn fucker, he is. But nobody else. Maybe — just maybe, as an outside bet — Klopp. But in the midst of this débâcle, the one thing that reassures me is that Pep is here for two more years for the rebuild.

Who on earth do people want? Chris Potter?? Eddie Howe??

Brian Potter ;)

It was painful to watch waves of PSG midfielders/defenders swarm through our midfield, passing them as they ran again and again at the 2 centre halves. Poor Kova looked like General Custer. I wanted the ref to halt the game.

We are going to get through this period and, if we remember it, we will look back and wonder why there are no positives to take from it. It's all been said about academy players leaving and doing well, and I know some or most may not be ready, but there must be one or two who could have been blooded. To watch the same players doing the same thing game after game. and do nothing different is barmy!

Yes, Lewis was one of our best players in the early part of the season , playing out of position due to our bizzare obsession with not signing full backs

He’s also a kid that will have their ups and downs due to form , but he will come back as he’s got loads of talent
Good post. The amount of negative comments this lad got last night was unjustified. Almost like a crescendo raining in on him on the match day forum. Not nice at all.

Just seen the highlights

Who was rb in the second half ?

I thought you couldn't gain an advantage by being off side even if the opposition had the last touch
If it’s a deliberate playing of the ball by the defender rather than a deflection you can’t be offside

Reading various post on Bluemoon I get the impression some fans want Pep out which I find unbelievable and really ungrateful after what he has achieved with City.
I don't think any City fan is ungrateful when it comes to Pep's achievements, but there are many examples of clubs hanging on to good managers too long; Busby at the swamp and Wenger at Arsenal come to mind, and others where clubs have continued, or even improved after a good manager leaves such as Liverpool after Shankly.
Pep is the best in the world. He would obliterate all the pisscan's records if he stayed the same length of time, but questions have to be asked about our weaknesses this season and the apparent inability to address them. None of us are top level coaches and I doubt many have even low level coaching qualifications, but we can all see the weaknesses in midfield yet he (or Txiki) refuse to recruit midfielders. - I appreciate we don't know what is going on behind the scenes regarding transfers but that's how it seems.
Then we have this idea we starve the opponents of the ball. Nice idea but it's not been working for three months. We are conceding possession all over the pitch as players aren't seeing passes or mess them up when they do. That may be a result of players being played out of position, but whatever it is we are losing the ball far more frequently than we used to.
We lack energy in midfield yet refuse to bring in energetic players because our game is still based on possession even when we keep losing it.
In summary: Pep isn't the problem, but Pep's approach to our current problems is a bit worrying.
Top four and FA Cup please. - Oh, and Benfica, Brest or Lille in the play-offs please as I've never seen us play them.

Another example of our frailties exposed. Although we arguably competed with them for a while, we were probably fortunate to find ourselves leading.

I don't know whether it is stamina, lack of ability, concentration, or a bit of everything, but we fade so badly after an hour or so. Every single game. Should be giving ticket holders a third back on the price at this rate.

Dias is clearly our only organiser at the back. I guess Rodri was doing that job in front of him but take both away and we're clueless. Best we get is someone waving a foot at a shot like my littlest one waves her Disney fairy wand around.

Couldn't believe when he brought Gundo on, yes Kovacic had been poor but the last thing we needed was even less mobility in midfield. They just ran through us after that. At one point our backline was Nunes, Akanji, Gvardiol and Lewis, and I'm afraid we won't win a bean with that setup, and over the 90 minutes I think we had 3 or 4 different back lines. Maybe circumstance, maybe irrelevant now we have bought two new defenders, but in a champions league must win game that was desperate, a real case of fcuk around and find out.

On the other hand, it's PSG and we could have gone there in any other season probably thinking a draw is decent, so to get beat when we're struggling isn't really a suprise. But the manner of it, again, is so shitty. Typified by that last minute onside goal, just blow the whistle and give the goal and let us all go home, we've had enough.

Shite season for us. Yes we can still qualify with a win against Brugge, but I'm not really sure I want us to. Certainly don't feel that we'd deserve it, but who knows with some new blood and regaining some form maybe we'll actually get further after all.

I will give a special mention to camelgob though, who had either the idiocy or balls to say on tnt sports after psg scored their first "that goal was good from my point of view, as a neutral" A neutral! About as neutral as the pH of his piss after he climbed out of that bathroom window.

Overall, a loss to psg away in the champions league isn't a disaster. But the manner of it, the weaknesses, that's the crap part. Could see it coming like a freight train, and all we did was pull our own pants down and bend over.

I'm off to get a cup of tea, open the transfer section of the forum, hopefully we're linked with some midfielders. Failing that, some more centre halves.

I'm convinced that that will trigger it. Txiki will get busy when he sees that.
A cup of tea is the solution to most things in life, I've found…

Seen loads of Twitter calling out Bernardo, Nunes, KDB, Akanji. Need to remember when we had Delph/Zin at LB they were being moved into position by the 6 - we simply don't have that anymore. The answer isn't throwing more defenders at it, yes defensively we have been really poor and light BUT positionally across the board we have been worse. Pep has openly, many times, said the 6 is his most important position on the pitch. We've said on this forum many times how we just don't understand how they've sleep walked into this, but we're still no closer to getting someone in. I know we're working faster than others but we've known since at least November last year that it was priority. Pay the fucking money, we need at least 2 there because the mixture of Kova, Gundo, Bernardo ain't working and if they think Stones, Akanji, Lewis and Nunes can cover it then they've collectively lost their shit.

On the game itself i think up until we got our second, we were ok. They had chances and that was ALWAYS going to happen, they're a decent side and we're playing away in Paris, but i thought we handled it OK. But as has been the norm throughout this season, we don't have ANYONE in the team who is willing to take the ball and calm the game down with passes. Look back at other seasons, Rodri will take the ball off the back 4 and just stop, get people into position and then start the passes - this is the only way for us. We cannot and never will be able to beat teams in transition and that's why we always struggle against Liverpool.

I cannot believe Edersons form of late . His distribution was terrible last night and if I had to hazard a guess I would say he doesn’t want to be here anymore. Constantly giving the ball back to PSG and his shot stopping is questionable.Rico is just not big or strong enough for the level he’s playing at and Ilkay is done unfortunately

No sentiment for me.
Out-Ederson, Akanji, Stones,Walker,Rico,Gundogan,Kovacic,Bernardo, KDB, Phillips, Nunes, Grealish
Keep - Ake, Ortega, Dias, Gvardiol, Bobb ,Savio, Rodri, Doku, Haaland, Foden, O'reilly, Mcatee.
New- Kusanov, Reis, Marmoush

Need-Left back, Right back, centre half , 2 x defensive midfielders, 1 x attacking midfielder

Don't think this is going to be a quick process peeps.
Ortega also needs to be moved on. We need a new number one in the Summer.

In the past when teams have counter attacked us we've had players like Fernandinho & Rodri who are masters at breaking up play. Now, no one is will to put a tackle in. Its so easy for the opposition.

Next week against Brugge: they beat Sporting, Aston Villa, draw vs Juve

I´m sure, that we will have problems against them.

Hopefully there is the desire to win, not like last night.
