PSG ticket prices - Protest options v West Brom.

Specifically regarding ST prices for 2015/2016 and for factual balance the following is something I posted a few weeks back:

"As part of the stadium expansion, City introduced c4500 season tickets in the price range £299-£380. I was amazed that the £299 seats in the SS weren't snapped up in the renewal window. It means that the overwhelming majority of existing ST holder voluntarily opted to pay a higher price based on location in the ground alone. The £380 seats (the ones lower down in SS) did sell out early but even then they were available for a few days.

For this season City introduced the new pricing bands on a highly differential basis and the stadium is split into 178 sections:

37 sections were for new seats and all priced extremely competitively i.e cheap
43 sections were priced the same or lower than the season before
56 sections had price increases of no more than £20
42 sections (less than 25% of the total number of sections available) only saw signifcant increases

Based on this the club, IMO, did not take the piss for 15/16. My bet is that for 2016/2017 we will see a price freeze"

To add to that, my view is it is fair to criticise the club (and football in general) for the hefty ST increases prior to last years renewal window but last year wasn't a problem. You might disagree with a differential pricing strategy but the other side of that strategy is that the club have used it to overall provide a very high number of competitively priced seats based on PL average ST prices.

I'll further add that IF there is an increase to ST prices this time, I will protest loudly.

Mine went up £15 which wasn't too bad compared to previous seasons so I get what you're saying. Trouble is, we had 5 seasons of increases prior to that - simce 2010 mine has risen by nearly 60% (nearly 70% with platinum) during a period where my annual salary has risen about 10%. Now I'm not saying that City should pander to the personal circumstances of each and every fan. That would be silly but they do need to be careful going forward. I've no idea what they will do with ST prices next season but with Pep coming in, they may think it will drum up enough interest to whack on another increase. I'll also add that it's not just the ticket prices - some fans paying extra to go platinum only to see it rendered worthless with corporate lite ticket holders jumping the queue on away tickets, or being denied an Arsenal away ticket because a significant chunk of our allocation went to about 150 Belgians who probably don't have a single loyalty point between them.

The club like any business will charge what they can get away with and will only change policy when they know they can NOT get away with it.

I am hoping that the club will see the loyalty of me and others as a reason to keep prices down and not the opposite by taking my support for granted.
That's a good post and one I'm largely in agreement with but you've (possibly inadvertently) got to the root of the issue so I've highlighted two sentences that sum it up.

They won't "see the loyalty" of me and you until it ends and they know they can't get away with it. We've all been guilty (if that's the right word) of putting our hearts before our heads and wallets. Can't blame anyone for doing that but that's exactly why they've got away with it.

'Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone'

Twas ever thus and so City, like all business concerns will constantly probe to maximise income without killing the golden goose.

Loyalty/continuing support/habit/excuse for getting out of the house/meeting sons and friends at the ground and in the pub - call it what you will it, perhaps loyalty is just the shorthand way of describing the rest. But they do bank on it, just the same as Tescos, as they operate all sort of schemes to get people in their shops.

I go to watch City for pleasure, even when it is not pleasing but when was it ever always pleasurable? So for my own reasons I will go to City for as long as I am around and able. And I hope that includes winning the CL, for my sons sake not just mine. If my head had ruled the heart I might have stopped watching City a long time ago. Watching on tv is a poor substitute for me and I have always felt that TV is the root of many football problems.

Do I get an apple for being a good boy with my first post?

This is part of the problem IMO. They play on our loyalty and most of us have sucked it up for years without too much grumbling - I'm as guilty as anyone. The same goes for fans of other clubs of course. It's only recently that the worm has started to turn with fans at many clubs getting organised and doing something about it.

That is what all clubs play on and that's fucking wrong, on it's own. I can rarely afford to go these days.
When i was teens/early twenties went everywhere, every week at an affordable cost. Didn't worry about
the travel as it hadn't cost me an arm and a leg for the ticket. The bottom line is, football is just too expensive
for a lot of people these days and not just at City. How many people have to be priced out before something
is done. Because i can tell you, i'm well pissed off that i can't go most of the time.

And that's the exact message that the Football Supporters Federation - in conjunction with fan groups up and down the country - has been communicating. What planet have you been on to not know that this has been going on for months, years even? We've already campaigned for cheaper away tickets and succeeded. Did you know there was a weekend of action back in October where fans of all 20 PL clubs joined forces, along with the fans of some lower division clubs? Did you know that on that weekend, fans of City, Newcastle, Liverpool, and Evertom gathered on the bridge prior to our match with Newcastle complete with banners in the name of each club supporting cheaper away tickets? Did you also know that the weekend of action was the brainchild of a City fan? Did you also know that City and Newcastle fans were allowed to bring our respective banners into the ground, and were also allowed to display them? Did you know that the FSF and representatives of Liverpool's Spirit Of Shankly fan group had meetings with the No.2 at Barclays to express their concerns over away ticket prices amongst other things and that as a sponsor of the Premier League the guy at Barclays concurred with most of what was being said?

But as has been pointed out to you time and time again, when it comes to home tickets the fans have to lobby their clubs individually and that's exactly what has been happening. It's not just City fans doing this - it's happening up and down the country. The FSF are doing a great job in getting the message out there that the new TV deal can be used to give a bit back to the fans but they can't be expected to do everything. No-one's talking about bringing in banners calling everyone at the club a bunch of cunts, more a simple message that if prices continue to rise it will be detrimental not just to the fans but also the club.

I wasn't aware of most of the above tbh. It's fantastic that some fans are prepared to get off their arses and do something to make a difference.

Let me be clear, I'm not anti anyone voicing their view that football is becoming too expensive for your long term fan. What I am against is hammering our owners and the club in isolation and shining a light on Mcfc specifically.

No problem lobbying the club and making the argument for lower prices, but I'm dead set against mass protests, walk outs and the like as that is only damaging the reputation of the club we all love and when you weigh everything up I don't think that the situation has reached a level that warrants that level of discontent, particularly when compared to other premier league clubs.

What planet are you on, has everyone signed up to increases in ticket prices and season cards every year. Your as bad as the corporates if you are happy to go along and keep paying these ridiculous prices.

The club has just turned in to a joke and the fans are way down on the list of priorities - all this crap they do before the game and ridiculous videos of how to become a keeper and how to make an apple crumble is just embarrassing.

It is mentioned a lot but the German clubs are all geared towards the fans - the ticket prices are low, public transport is pretty much free, players show their appreciation to the fans and that is returned from the fans. Clearly the club has stood their ground and seem unbothered to be pricing fans out which is a shame.

Since going to my first game with my Dad in 92 as a 4 year old I can honestly say this is the most disillusioned I have been since supporting the club!

There's your problem lad. Before 92 there was many a more occasion to be disillusioned with city.many many more. This is heaven believe me.

Correct, We'd all like cheaper tickets and to to change this and that about the team, and fine campaign for those things but if football is still making you miserable and angry after the 5 years we have just had , maybe it's not the pastime for you.
