Correct, you know them?

It's not unusual, 'ha' Worked on the same bench as him at Hawker Siddeley in 68, until he became a 'ratter' Booo !! Good bloke, passed him in big Morrisons last week, would have to prompt him, but he'd know me.
Liberal Club now Kidzmatter day nursery. Get onto JRB to have a walk round Newton Heath/Failsworth to take a few photos for you.

Good people. Tom and Glad. My Mum was over in Sept for their 50th anniversary. She said Tom wasn't doing so well.
I took a quick spin through Failsworh and Newton Heath last Sept. It's changed a bit since 78 ;)

Anyone remember The Manchester opposite Victoria train station, a right dump but good beer and topless barmaids.....strangely all very thin with fried egg tits
It is rumoured, but of course I couldn't possibly confirm it, that a couple of lads aged 16 or 17 would pay half price on the bus into town, go in The Manchester Arms for a couple of pints, come out and catch the 123 to the match (paying half price again) and then go into the ground through the kids turnstiles.
And you're right about the tits on the barmaids. They also had strippers on for a short time. Erm, so I'm told.

The Tatton and The Church in Northenden and of course the Snooty Fox on the parkway - happy days all gone now

Snooty Fox was as rough as fuck.

The first time I ever saw 2 women fight was in there.

Strangely titillating.

I was 14 living the dream :)

This place on Brinksway in Stockport was not for the faint hearted back in the 70's/80s, it served as the local for the Gorsey Bank estate. The name of the pub then was the Bulkeley Arms but it was always known as the Bow Garrett.

I can't remember the name but the pub on the junction of Stockport Road & Broom Lane used to have some decent bands on at one time, might still be there but I don't think so.

All remembered from when I was younger

great blog with loads of old boozers

http://pubs-of-manchester.blogspot.co.uk/

Sad now with the leigh arm shutting there is no pub for a near 4 mile stretch up ashton Old road between the lord raglan and star n garter where 20 yrs ago there was about around 12, even on the streets leading off that stretch between hyde rd and the new rd there s hardly any left

Following on from the pubs on Oldham road in Failsworth into Hollinwood.

The Greyhorse
The Woodman
The Queens
The White Swan
The Old Post
The Railway (former City pub, now tapas bar)
The Crown (Hollins Rd)
The Gardners Rest (Hollins Rd)
The Hat and Feathers
The Kings Arms
Help the Poor Struggler (One time landlord Albert Pierrpoint)
The Filho (my first local)
The Navigation
The Golden Buck (now a Indian restaurant)
The Waggon and Horses) (Top Waggon)
The Smut

All closed.

Still open

The Waggon and Horses (Bottom Waggon)
The Spinners (Sam Smiths)
The Bowling Green (John Willie Lees)
The Bridgewater (Joseph Holts + Carvery)

The Bay Horse in Failsworth has now reopened (Free House + restaurant)

I don't go into town much these days, but has the Castle and Falcon disappeared now? From memory, it was on the proposed route for this new-fangled Metrolink I hear so much about.

Decent beer, proper pub, used to meet up there before a game, after working at the Co-op Bank on a Saturday morning shift in the late 60s.
