Punishment for scuffing the penalty spot

I watched a game last week, no idea who now, a player did the same and got a yellow.

So it appears it depends on who the official is.
Not really. It might depend on whether or not the referee or assistant referee see it happen. Players aren't going to do this in full view of the officials because they know it is cheating, and they will be punished for doing it.

It is not covered in the laws, but it would be Unsportsmanlike conduct and a booking and therefore not a VAR issue. As he didn't get punished in the game he could be banned if they wanted him to as it is unusual and bringing the game into disrepute.

ridiculous and cheating, he wasnt the only one to scuff the area, its law that when arsenal are one up you cant have a penalty as its not fair !!

should be a red, totally agree. How long will it be before another player does it now ?

I think Gabriel got a yellow for arguing with the ref post the penalty? and not the spot incident.
