Punk and New Wave thread.

Sure it will have been posted many times already but heard a young Canarian busker playing a bilingual version of this today and was so impressed that I had to stop and listen, and drop him €5. Chatted to him afterwards and apparently it’s a massive cult song among disaffected young people in Spain

That song I never owned and haven't heard it very often tbh. Good track.

Absolutely mate. You saw live punk bands before I did. Just as well really you emigrating to Canada. Crass were my first gig, at The Mayflower iirc. Either them or UK Subs. My mind is hazy. Have you seen any early bands over there?
When I first came here (Aug 78) I saw Buzzcocks, The Clash, Ramones, Blondie and a load of Canadian punk bands at the time. Viletones, B. Girls etc. I feel very lucky to have been brought up in Manchester during the beginning of punk and also very lucky that it was a different era back then where 13 year old kids could go to see a band and a City match on there own. How many kids can say their first gig was this?

I'm in front of that stack to the left of Paul Simonon ; )

Nice one mate. I've seen that clip quite a few times. When I'm not as tired I'll play it again and see if I can pick you out pogo-ing about. Was early 78 when I got into punk, my old fella went spare when I cut my long shit hair to a spike and wore punk gear. Docs, bondage pants bum flap studded belt etc - "What the bloody hell do you think you're doing looking like that!!!?"... Good job my mum thought I looked cool, saved me another leathering. I had to wait till 5th year at school before I got to see a gig, saw plenty soon as I left school and started earning money,. Mind you, was expensive going to gigs and City games but I managed to get see both. Was a lot cheaper back then, especially when I sneaked into a few gigs and pretended to clip my clipper card. Then the inspector would get looking be like Blakey of On The Buses. Time to get off and wait for the next bus : )

Great song and name-checked on The Fall’s first single

It would be interesting to know what the original 70's boys thought of this new wave of Punk. I think they're a breath of fresh air with a strong message too.

I personally am a big fan of Fontaines D.C but not so keen on Idles. I find Idles to be not very melodic and a lot of shouting. It's possible that I haven't heard enough of their stuff though.
To be honest, I was never a fan of the 2nd wave of punk either. In my mind punk lasted one album and in a couple of cases, (Buzzcocks, Stranglers The Clash) two albums.
Having said that, I do like the early Idles stuff (but then again, I can here a lot of Sonic Youth in it and I like them).

Thanks to YouTube I've found loads of old punk stuff and very rare records. All the ones I have put up do far I have heard of but the are so many more from bands who only made a handful of songs. In some cases maybe less. One hit wonders? Well you have to get mainstream recognition. These small bands beavered away very much under the punk surface.

If any of you guys have heard these tracks I've found, maybe even seen them live, then just say so mi owd punksters. Cheers: )
@Barcon Randy Rampage are Canadian I believe. You heard of them mate?
