Maybe hasn’t aged well due to it being your first listen? I still play it often (as does @citizen_maine posting it in the music association thread) and think it still sounds fresh
Sorry @Mad Eyed Screamer - I've only just seen this.
Yes, Dead Pop Stars is still a firm favourite of mine and is much more typical of the stuff on their first album Happy Birthday than that song itself was. Even with some of their later poppy stuff though ,there's still a dark undertone lyrically. I Could Be Happy for instance - "I would like to climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holidee..." "All of these things I do to get away from you" "How do I escape from you?" is I believe about an abusive relationship.

On the wider point though, the Adam & The Ants thing seemed fairly typical of most of the punk bands that had any longevity. It's hard to believe the band that gave us White Riot also gave us Should I Stay Or Should I Go, or the the ones that gave us Golden Brown had previously given us (Get A) Grip (On Yourself). New Rose and Neat Neat Neat followed later by (great) covers of Eloise and Alone Again Or
It's almost like they grew up or sumfink!
