QAnon

Yes. Although I Should have said two of the most unequal.

Confused. That’s of the richest 25 nations on earth. What about the other 170?

I doubt you’re going to be able to prove Qanon has taken hold due to “wealth inequality.” I suspect data will support that Qanon supporters tend to have average, slightly below average, or slightly above average incomes. But I’m just guessing.

I’d guess this is more about purity of ideological commitment and impressionist susceptibility than it is wealth inequality. And that has a whole variety of connections. I would bet the highest correlation is with those who believe the Bible is literal truth. That’s not a comment on religion — it’s a comment on those who have a hunger for outside structure codified and applied to their lives as a pathway to positive outcomes.

Read an interesting piece by Edward Snowdon last night hypothesising on the state of mind which the internet induces in us. He calls it Apophenia, the conspiracy of one that surrounds each of us.

People live in their own reality. Google, Facebook, Youtube, Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, all avowedly aim to get people to tailor what they read and watch and hear, to an unprecedented degree. You can avoid 'reality' totally, and live entirely in a world of voices that meet your preferences and needs.

So the that what we are reading and listening to is a conspiracy, the product of one guiding mind, is true. It's our mind, reflected back to us, in all the cuts and edits we make in creating an internet existence where we ignore what we dislike, all the likes and dislikes, and all the opinions and little phrases and arguments that we react positively to, and then use for ourselves. A vicious cycle.

I’m liking this before reading it because the summary makes such intuitive sense to me, but I reserve the right to change that later :)

Is there any evidence that the US and UK are “the two most unequal countries on the planet”?
I'd contend the equality of opportunity in the USA and UK are greater than other countries. As for equality of outcome that is up to the individual. But that is a topic for another day.

The two men whom are widely believed to have been behind the Q larp aren't propagandists. At least not for any government. They are a father and son duo. I think it started for the lol's then they got to enjoy the power it made them feel.

I know a woman that fits this. Though she also believes in modern day prophets. I've tried telling her prophets = profits to no avail.

How very tragic for the children and their mother.

Quite honestly - I wouldn't have believed this story at all - it's simply not credible - that someone believed that his children would grow up to be "lizard people" because of inherited DNA from his wife and therefore killed them.

Not credible - except that this story has been reported by multiple, credible news outlets.

The free spread of crazy conspiracy theories costs lives. Just as you don't have the right to shout "fire" in a crowded theater - you too, should not have the right to spread dangerous conspiracy theories, especially online, where the reach of online posts is truly global.

The US in particular - and governments in general - need very badly to pass laws restricting/outlawing/criminalizing the spread of unfounded conspiracy theories. Until such time as these new laws are passed - lives will be needlessly lost.

I hate the QAnon people, the ones that think they are George fucking Washington. But I can't agree with you.

Wrong person or wrong party gets into power in a nation with laws like this they can easily use th em to silence legitimate opposition to policies, proposed laws and candidates. These types of things are the bad that come with the good in a free country

Which would you restrict/outlaw/criminalise, and how do you decide that?

Never went to the moon, and Kubrick directed the landing video
Elvis lives on the moon
Paul McCartney is dead
Roswell crash
9/11 inside job
Men in black
Flat Earth
Gaddafi stole Shergar
NWO capital city underneath Denver airport

No doubt an action to minimise the spread of conspiracy theories would become the subject of one or multiple theories itself.

You're getting dangerously close to thought policing here.

Censorship of dangerous ideas is already occurring - albeit in an ad-hoc unorganized manner (Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, etc. all remove posts/ban users).

I honestly do not know how best to responsibly censor ideas without infringing on freedom of speech. Yet, I feel that censorship must occur.

In an ideal world, we could form panels of apolitical topical experts to advise or perhaps oversee policy in this regard. Might this be possible in practice? After all, we have judges who ostensibly are apolitical (but in fact are anything but) - but nonetheless, the judicial system in the US stood firm for Democracy - rejecting challenge after challenge brought by Trump and his allies seeking to overturn the legal, fair and honest election of Joe Biden.

And thus - the burden isn't that we find apolitical experts - rather it is that we find experts sworn to uphold truth - and having identified such experts - for example going through congressional vetting after nomination by the sitting President - a panel to oversee dangerous speech/writings/online posts could conceivably be formed. Moreover, it seems to me that formation of such a panel is no more difficult than establishing a functioning judiciary.
