I still don’t understand how that’s offside today

They seem to have concluded that the player making the pass is offside, he’s the one heading it from under the keepers grasp and one of his legs is offside

Since when did that come into it? Is it not always the player receiving the pass

What am I missing here

I’m guessing you’re looking at an image where the player who actually heads the ball is obscured by the ‘keeper. When I first saw it I couldn’t understand how anybody could be off side as there only seemed to be one attacker and the ‘keeper in the vicinity. But there’s two attackers. One challenges the ‘keeper and gets a head on it and his mate who it drops to is narrowly but clearly offside.

The VAR and the computer can decipher that by the letter of the law it was offside. Without this technology it would never be deemed offside in real time by the naked eye. The defending side never played offside.

It was pure luck that Qatar did not concede a goal. Completely against the spirit of the law and the beautiful game per se.

Well that’s a matter of opinion. But while we have VAR they may aswell get stuff right, as they have here.

That can't be right. I've been told they're very passionate about football over there. There's no way they'd pay for a ticket and only manage to support their team for half a game.

The reporter at the start of the programme also said that tickets were very easy to come by and the majority were taken by fans of neither team.

Which is also a bit odd for a country playing their first ever World Cup game.
