Queen Elizabeth II

Her father should also be remembered today, 70 years since his death.
For a man who cried when he realised he had to take throne on the abdication of his shirking duty brother, a man for whom social occasions (never mind public speaking) were a nightmare for him because of his stammer and for the strain of leading this nation when we were under attack, and looked like going under.
No wonder Churchill, who was there with him during those dark days and probably knew him as well as anybody outside the family, sent a wreath to his funeral with the words "For Valour."
George VI might not have been a man of charisma, but he was something much better ....steadfast, loyal, duty driven and someone not afraid to accept responsibility.
