Queen Elizabeth II

Not bad turnouts to say the vast majority don’t care…

Well played Scotland.
Well, whether they care or not, obviously the vast majority didn't turn out to line the route. Edinburgh has a population of half a million. You'd get more people on the Royal Mile any day in August.

At the coronation in 53, all us school kids were given a commemorative mug. I attached a rubber band to mine and used it as a yo-yo. Yup, band snapped, mug hit the ground and smashed. Would be worth 50p now.
So that's where that came from. My elder brother was 8.

Crowd will have been swollen by the huge numbers of tourists currently in the city and families delivering their children for freshers. Respectful.

I live in Ramsbottom, which is a relatively traditional area. Tory MP. Went heavy on the jubilee etc. I was expecting there, if anywhere, would feel sombre and show signs of real grieving. Literally nothing has changed. Everyone acting normal. No bunting, no pics of the queen. Shops open. Staff, old and young, wittering away as friendly as ever, acting normal. The country absolutely isn't in mourning. Some are, Im sure, but for the vast majority life is identical. Not spoke to a single person yet who's brought it up in conversation since Thursday. In truth, the press is acting how they feel they're expected to act and projecting that onto the wider public, when in truth they're expressing the feelings of the vast minority.
So no one has mentioned the queen has died to you ? Who have you spoken to, your wife ?

I don’t think many people have said no one is bothered.

People have got on with everyday life.

Loads of people lined the streets when the Tour de France started here. You’d struggle to suggest the majority of Brits are cycling fans.

I’ve seen plenty of comments on here and elsewhere saying no one’s that bothered. I relplied to one earlier.

Your example is a bit different. The numbers particularly in London next week will be huge, I’d imagine like nothing we’ve seen before. Don’t see the comparison. I was just trying highlight how entire villages were turning out - showing people are bothered.

What would the mug be worth?
