queen wasps

Hate the stripey little b*stards with a passion - only been stung twice in my life, but it stays with you.

The first time I ever got stung, I was 9 and stood on a dead one on the floor at my nan's and she had to pick the sting out. Typical that I suffered at the hands of something that was dead! :P

Second time, in Turkey in 2010. They had LOADS around the hotel, they had to fumigate daily. I'd gone for a kip one afternoon, then woke up to go and join the family...went on to the balcony, put my vest on, and then when I got to the pool-side, I felt a searing pain in my armpit. One of the little cretins was in my vest, and rather than fly away, it did the Waspish thing and stung me, before leaving.

Check this clip from Johnny Vegas' "Sex Lives of the Potato Men" - now THAT is a bloke who fears wasps.

Thanks for the warning OP.

are you sure it wasnt a hornet

hornets are the size of a large wasp (they're actually a species of wasp) but they have brown rather than black stripes and the queens are a good 2 inches long which is bigger than a queen wasp. it's still too early for this season's brood of hornets (or wasps) to be out and about. what i saw were definitely queen wasps.

Erm, erm i can't come over tonight, i am erm going away for a while!

I hate the lot of them!

I can post you some Glen, you could breed them. The daubers could be trained eventually to build you a nice luxurious mudhut, which you could sell to some Amazonian tribesmen and make a small profit.

depends if we have a cold snap between now and the summer, I doubt it as it's already practically April, I think many things should have a good year.

Not seen the forecast then.
