Question Time

I just think he failed to grasp the point. If you're a Congolese war refugee could you be deported to the country that's at war with Congo? (That said, which Congo is actually at war at Rwanda?)

Well, DR Congo is the one with the border.

Rwanda has supported rebels in DRC.
DRC has supported rebels against Rwanda.
It's been rumbling since the genocide in Rwanda.

This has some recent history:

The border with DRC is mostly lake and the volcano park where the gorillas are - that area is absolutely stunning.

Not really looking for something that scratches an itch lol, I am genuinely puzzled by it, but I do genuinely feel more informed by these exchanges. I know a couple of people who are struggling with long covid, but both are managing to work. I also see the correlation with age and dementia, I certainly know a fair few people who have this horrible disease. I hadnt really put two and two together. Cheers
It's worth mentioning that disability benefit includes things the government pays for to help get people to work, not just benefits for staying at home and not working.

Only one that came out of last night with any credit was Daisy Cooper from the Lib Dem’s.

Shambles from our so called main parties.
The lib-dems can promise free beer and a World Cup winning England team, because they know they will not form the next government so any pie-in-the-sky promises will never have to be fulfilled.
Sadly the two main parties have to keep their powder dry and avoid making themselves a hostage to fortune, sometimes at the cost of making themselves look clueless and unwilling to answer.
It‘s one of the real downsides to the in-yer-face combative system we have.

Not sure promising to back the outcome of the ICC and arrest Netanyahu if the opportunity arose is pie in the sky. Something neither Bridget Phillipson or Mark Spencer could bring themselves to say, tripping over their tongues in the process.

This country used to stand up for rule of law. As Daisy Cooper said, we cannot allow these crimes to go unnoticed.

She didn’t promise anything fanciful either or at least no more fanciful than anyone else on the panel. Investing in primary care and mental health to save costs when people hit crisis, sorting out self employed imbalances (IR35), and tax big business (perhaps unrealistic but the global tax regime will help). All pretty sensible stuff, audience certainly preferred her answers to anyone else’s.

That‘s my point.
The audience preferred her answers because she said things they wanted to hear - good old fashioned popular promises that they will never be pushed to fulfil, and I don’t recall her being pushed like the other two parties to tell us how the lib-dems were going to finance their policies and promises
The other two parties have to be very careful at this point to not provide ammunition to their opponents or sympathetic media as they know things get cast up and twisted and lied about.
The real tragedy is that the two major parties are forced to put electoral priorities above the priorities for the nation.
They are pretty much mutually responsible for this.
