Queues

All the security is bullshit and is a token gesture to tick a box, against liverpool i was 50 yards back in the que and it was taking ages and the searching was slow, then there was a massive downpour for about 5 minutes, all of a sudden people were moaning, and in less than 2/3mins iwas at the front, barely searched cos i moaned about theque and i was soaking,
everyone has an opinion and i know mine wont go down with everyone either, but there is more risk queing up and leaving the ground, the Manchester bomb occured after the concert when people were leaving.
photo id season card holders should be allowed straight through with a minimal security check, there is also a stereotype for certain terrorist organisations, but the pc brigade wont allow it as it would be deemed racist..
You clearly have a lot to learn about terrorism and how they operate

Feared the worst tonight as due to traffic only got to ground at 7.30 and when I saw the queue for M1 I thought I would miss kick off. Thankfully N1 into SS3 was virtually empty and it took a minute.

Some of the others looked long though. Were they dealt with any better?
Where I was no.

I understand fans should turn up early to get in on time but it isnt going to happen and for whatever reason the queues are still maxed out at kick off. 5 mins later and the head steward goes to the steward hut and brings out 3 more stewards to clear the line. Ffs why dont they do that earlier? Are they sat there doing nothing whilst the queues are massive.

Yep, any Irish Royal Marines (Ciaran Maxwell) should be strip searched.

Must have read my post from after the Palace game as we had double the number of wand wavers which kept the queues to a minimum. That said the crowd was a lot smaller than for Palace.

Much better last night at Z. 5 minute queue, proper scan by seemingly competent wand waver and in.

This exactly - seemed to be a lot better last night with more wanders. I walked past a couple of spirals on my way to Z at 7:15 with no queues.

As others have said, smaller crowd last night.

Not much smaller though. 45000 but no away fans and there would be a lot less no show S/C holders as they wouldn't be buying the tickets if they couldn't go. So there was probably only 3 or 4 thousand less home fans and most of the unsold tickets were in SS3.

Why would a terroist even bother trying to get in the ground there are thousands of targets waiting to get in .people are more vunerable while in the queue

And if he/she was detected, they would set the bomb off in the queue

As numerous people have said, if everyone is to be scanned/searched, do it at the perimeter when supporters arrivals are staggered, rather than the 10 minute rush to enter the stadium

We have often said that it'd be so easy to create mayhem outside the stadium. City Sq, the bars, the tram stop ..... all soft targets without any (visible) security. Though did see an armed police response car over the bridge and near the car parks at the first home game this season.

I think terrorists and the media would consider it a more high profile attack if it was inside the ground.
Don’t think it matters as the MEN arena attack it wasn’t actually in the arena it was in the foyer outside, like others have said City square would be a prime one especially derby day, absolute carnage, even driving a truck up Alan Turing way mowing people down, I’m just surprised it’s not been done more.

I'm not suggesting the damage would be worse or the coverage less, but the terrorists would see defeating the stadium security as a bonus. Almost as though they were telling the world that they can cause chaos however tight the security.

He fair enough mate but I don’t think they are that arsed anymore

A terrorist only wants maximum casualties, they have no interest in "defeating the stadium security", because if they don't defeat it, they may never get to do their attack.

The highest number of casualties would be where the crowds was biggest and most tightly packed, and that is not in the seats in a stadium.

Most of the damage from explosions comes from the ricochet effect of the device's contents being blasted all over the place. An enclosed area surrounded by concrete would unfortunately maximise this, as happened at the Arena. I think that's why they are so keen on stopping a nutter actually get into the ground. And it's the reason I don't spend too long in the bar/concourse area - you're safer in yer seat.

After fighting through the traffic and making the ground for 7.30pm against Shaktar the queue in turnstile P1 at the Colin Bell Stand was about 100m long , finally got in the match at 8.10pm , yes i know we should be there an hour before kick off but when people have to work for a living to pay for tickets , its just not possible for many to arrive at the ground that early. If the club doubled the staff on security at the turnstiles with their wands it obviously half the waiting time. , i suggested this to a "how can i help you " jacketed guy , and he totally agreed. My intention was to ring the club the following day and moan like f*ck , but i think the club have moved on from giving the great unwashed a good "matchday experience" when they can make top dollar on the corporate business. No more night matches for me until the club start appreciating the core supporters problems of getting to evening kick-offs .

Not acceptable that. I was lucky at N1 but after a 70 min car journey (usually 30) I feared the worst. Think it was mainly because SS3 wasn't very busy
