Racist pub owners made to remove “golliwog” dolls

Were these from the headlines in the daily star or express as they seem like a load of nonsense.
Someone has already posted that the town which outlawed its own symbol was Tamworth, together with some of its history and the removal.
As for the others, go search cos I can’t be bothered, it’s just stuff I vaguely remember reading.

Objects should either be classed as offensive or not offensive. Seems too many grey areas when you start having to consider the position of an object to decide on offence.
Madness. EVERY object or activity is offensive to someone. The puritans tried this one in the 17th century. Ended in tears. Included in their ‘haram’ list were: colours, ornamentation of any kind, music, dance, theatre, Christmas, etc etc.

Some objects are offensive, saying somebody can find every object offensive so no obects should be consudered offensive is nonsense .Golliwogs and quite a few other objects from the past are now considered racist by most and have been for many years. As long as most of us can remember.

I didnt say no objects should be considered offensive. I said classifying EVERY object as offensive or not was mad, which it is— try making a list.

As far as my memory is correct, which is not always!
Another poster has verified the third example.
The problem is not your memory, but the fact that some sections of the UK media print a constant stream of incorrect anti-muslim stories.

There are dozens of examples of much more serious articles, which had to be corrected, but of course, no-one ever shares a couple of paragraphs at the bottom of p4 of the Express - once the front page story is out there, the damage has been done.

Here's an article from someone at the Muslim Council for Great Britain. One quote is key:

"In the past year and a half, more than 40 stories on issues related to Islam and Muslims have been corrected in mainstream national newspapers following complaints I made"

There's another guy who got fed up and started investigating everything, and discovered that a lot of the "xmas banned" etc. stories came from a right wing "Christian" organisation, which was putting out inaccurate anti-muslim press releases. The Times, Sun, Express, Mail and Telegraph had reported the "Birmingham ban Xmas" 150 times in the 15 years after it first came out, despite it being easily unproved.
