Racist pub owners made to remove “golliwog” dolls

Which is a kind of pig!
Boar= Male pig. Wild= not domesticated.
Yes, but the standard definition of pig includes the word domesticated.

So not farmed and eaten? Well not the legendary 14th century pig it depicts anyway.

Has anyone actually met a Muslim offended by all porcines or just the thought of eating them or touching their meat?

The problem is not your memory, but the fact that some sections of the UK media print a constant stream of incorrect anti-muslim stories.

There are dozens of examples of much more serious articles, which had to be corrected, but of course, no-one ever shares a couple of paragraphs at the bottom of p4 of the Express - once the front page story is out there, the damage has been done.

Here's an article from someone at the Muslim Council for Great Britain. One quote is key:

"In the past year and a half, more than 40 stories on issues related to Islam and Muslims have been corrected in mainstream national newspapers following complaints I made"

There's another guy who got fed up and started investigating everything, and discovered that a lot of the "xmas banned" etc. stories came from a right wing "Christian" organisation, which was putting out inaccurate anti-muslim press releases. The Times, Sun, Express, Mail and Telegraph had reported the "Birmingham ban Xmas" 150 times in the 15 years after it first came out, despite it being easily unproved.
Yes, UK press has a genuine problem. However, I equally wouldn’t trust MCGB on this subject either. They are still unable officially to support the idea of free speech. One of their recent head honchos took part in book burning.
Mad culture wars.

Not sure that's relevant - It's not the MCGB saying these stories were false - this guy reported them and they were corrected.

Given that it's pretty clear the right wing print media play fast and loose with anti-muslim stories, I think we should take a little more care when repeating them, and be pretty damn sure they're true first.

Madness. EVERY object or activity is offensive to someone. The puritans tried this one in the 17th century. Ended in tears. Included in their ‘haram’ list were: colours, ornamentation of any kind, music, dance, theatre, Christmas, etc etc.
How do you go about becoming puritan?

On a point of information, Puritans did not object to music per se, but to music in church. Oliver Cromwell had an organ installed at Hampton Court and was happy to listen to secular music.

The ornamentation thing is more relative than anything. Rich Puritans wore very fine cloth and often with a range of colours. How else were they to distinguish themselves from their servants? Black was actually an expensive shade, and there are plenty of pictures of Royalists wearing black.

I've never understood how sports journalists get away with blatant lies. If I had my way I'd start by cleaning up the back pages first with massive fines for any unproven nonsense. Then I'd work my way towards the front pages where you have the sticky issues of politics.

The campaign against our club, Newcastle and the Qatar WC should give you a clue what the UK media is all about.

The Black Boy Inn in Caernarfon is more (in)appropriate?
It seems a strange choice of Bar decor..
Context, some information and why they shouldn't be hidden away would be of more use. Offensive as they may seem, perhaps they do more good as a discussion point. Perhaps we now live in an age of snowflakes and lack of conversation. The appropriateness of Ronald McDonald and dumped vapes, overpriced gas, and mortgage rates offends more people. The focus on a cacky stuffed set of dolls that everyone deemed surplus to history yonks ago and agreed weren't appropriate will no doubt be the sticky point.

Repatriation funds and a jam company may be a more appropriate funnel of time and efforts, to the truly offended. The pub could benefit from a fine, some Kick It Out time and a spot of media attention. It just seems mountains and molehills, proportion and distortion are everywhere now. There are real racism problems out there. A historical misrepresentation isn't the big issue now. I guarantee the Police force investigating it has more racist officers under investigation... and the pub may or may not have more shifty activities.

Book burning is freedom of expression. Those Gerrard autobiographies deserved it.
