Rags in financial trouble?

If the rags stopped winning things, all those plastic "fans" in the far east will drop them so fast they'll hit the ground like a fucking anvil. They follow them so they can say that they are winners because they support the champions. The 6-1 caused a lot of damage. Early exit from the CL caused even more and if they lose the league title to us, that could be critcal for their merchandising.
I almost feel sorry for the rags who believe baconface when he slurs out remarks like "no value in the market" and "our squad's good enough". He's just spunked over 50mil on 3 very average players. Believe me, they are 1 or 2 poor seasons away from financial meltdown.

Yeah, that sure happened with the dippers??

Just a minor point, City sold 3m shirts last season, 2m of them outside the UK.
As for fake replicas I have no idea of course.

If that were true, then we'd have out sold the rags and Real Madrid combined. Or you might have just made it up??

Things are definitely changing on the international front imho. I travel a lot with work and do my best to spread the word. 12 - 18 months ago, I was working in the US and met only a (small) handful of people that had any idea that Manchester has more than one club, let alone challenging in the top flight. Contrast that with a few weeks back when I was over there and there's been a real shift. Now I'm not saying we're even close to a level footing, but people are definitely coming around to us from what I can see. I even had a few people telling me that "everyone from Manchester supports City" and met a couple of City "fans" out there.

Now this doesn't mean anything in terms of finances necessarily but awareness is the first big step in that direction. I actually think the whole derby angle is a really good selling point internationally.

Thier new strategy for sponsorship is explained here and is expected to be successful. Small localised deals worldwide without affecting primary partners.

When we were on holiday in Florida, end of November / early December, we went to Florida Mall.

In the doorway to the main soccer shop in there, were two dummies, one wearing a scum shirt and the other in glorious light blue, with 16 KUN AGÜERO on the back.

There is no doubt in my mind that the times, they are a-changing.

If a 'product' is nearly at its max and relies on an equal performance every year to sustain its debts then surely it adds up that any downward trend is dangerous?

This is an important point, even if it turned out to be only partly true.

What I mean is, for example, Utd's sponsorship deals can be expected to have clauses in them which allow for exposure. Now they've dropped out of the CL how much less will they get from, say, their shirt sponsor or kit sponsor (or DHL !) than they did last year when they reached the final. It's one thing to say their deal is worth X amount, but that's the potential amount.

The rags have saturated the market and have huge debts to service. Hicks and gillette were taking liverpool to oblivion until they sold out. The glazers are showing no interest in selling, so if they're struggling while success is on the pitch, what happens when that's gone?
