Having read a couple of reports on this, the ban would be a world ban against Switzerland and it's FA which would affect the national team and all of the Swiss clubs. I would think it highly unlikely that as a nation they would want to be be excluded at the expense of giving Sion a domestic smack on the wrist although it appears unclear what punishment UEFA would expect.

The Sion lawsuit would seem like a speeding ticket compared to the one that Basle would bring against EUFA if they got kicked out because of another clubs actions.

Rags to get back in Champions League perhaps

Manchester United could still be involved in the last 16 of the Champions League after Fifa today threatened to suspend Switzerland over the case involving first division club Sion.

The Swiss FA was given a deadline of January 13th to follow Fifa’s instructions or face a ban which would also result in FC Basel being expelled from the Champions League and a possible reinstatement of last year’s beaten finalists.
