Raheem Sterling - 2017/18 performances

Only a player with such awful technique could muss such a gilt edged chance like that

Neymar several ranks above Hazard.

One way to look at Sterling's importance to City's campaign this season is to compare his contribution with that of the high flying Mo Salah to Liverpool's. Salah has 21 goals + 6 assists to Sterling's 14 + 6, so on the face of it Salah is the more important player. But this is an incomplete analysis.

We wouldn't be where we are on the table without Sterling's goals. So I'd rather have Sterling scoring match winning goals than Sterling on 30+ goals if a lot of the goals came after the match was already won.

Yet another way to view Sterling's campaign is to say that a player is only as good as his last performance and contribution; the season is far from over and unless he keeps winning matches, there is the risk things could unravel for the team and nobody will remember him for his early excellent work, he will only be remembered for the sitters he missed.

At any rate, Sterling is improving, he is a different player this season compared with the last one. Sterling is 23, and while Salah has always been a devastating player, or has had the potential to be that, I am not sure what his goals + assists returns were at age 23.

That was a one off, there are numerous examples of Sterling having poor technique. For example, the below is from his miss vs Liverpool in the League cup final. His body positioning is absolutely shocking. It was the same for the miss last week vs West Brom - leaning back and off balance.

I'm not sure what your point is here. That Sterling does have good technique because De Bruyne has missed a couple of easy chances?

If people are being honest. When Sterling goes through on goal or has any sort of chance are you more suprised if he scores or misses.

Right now I think theres not a great chance of him scoring especially 1 v 1s. There isn't a confidence of him doing it like there is with other players. No confidence in his technique or mentality to be able to do it consistently. An example against west brom when he cut in and had an easy shot but slice it wide.

My point is that it happens the best of them ( I thought that was obvious but apparently not ) so rein it in.

Most strikers fail to score with over 70% of their shots.

To all the Sterling haters... just think, if we didn't sign Sterling, we'd have Navas on the wing!
