Raheem Sterling - 2017/18 performances

I really don't know what more he has to do... scored the winning goal(the most significant single contribution of any player on the day), sure his dribbles don't often result in a goal(wins lots of free kicks for De Bruyne though) but again today he was one of the players with the most balls to try and make something happen and didn't stop trying(you can't just add up the amount of times he gave the ball away and ignore the effort and bravery) yet some think he was "one of the worst on the pitch despite his goal"(almost sounds as though they resent he had the audacity to score to take the shine off their over critical analysis of him).

His passing is also very good and often overlooked he was one of the players with the most successful passes last season(that's vital to our game), always willing to receive the ball and be involved in the thick of play. To be honest I don't see anyone can argue that he shouldn't start the next game he is available for.

Well done Raz that's 2 in 2 already, keep proving the know it alls wrong. :)

Nothing bizarre at all, he was our worst player today, on par with Dinho. And I don't do conclusions based on one game, that problems were evident last season. His assists were mostly low crosses from the wing, so far he struggled to show that he can take part in more complex interplay.

He's the best attacker in the NT, no doubt, but it's not the best benchmark, isn't it?

He was mostly poor today but everything leading up to the goal is what epitomises good interplay by an intelligent player. I mean there is so much wrong with that statement.
1. What problems were evident last season. The only evident problem last season that I could see was that he was not very good at striking the ball well when shooting and that's been an evident problem from the past 3 seasons. Maybe you could even add that he would occasionally under/over-hit his passes or crosses but then again de-bruyne and sane were as much of offenders as him. Outside of that I genuinely want to know what you thought were his evident problems last season. I mostly saw a player who was involved in 2/3 of the team's best attacks that led to chances/goals in most games. I can even show actual video evidence of this to you if you desire.

2. His assists were mostly low crosses from the wing? You should read that statement back to yourself and see if there's any logic to writing that about a player who mostly played on the right wing and was quite often hugging the touchline in peps system last season.

3. As for him struggling to show he can take part in more complex interplay, maybe we've been watching different versions of him the past two seasons especially the last one. In fact if you were to think of criticisms of him that would be amongst the least of them.

So I would really want to see what conclusions you've come to with him based on the last two seasons to either think he's not intelligent or doesn't have a brain

Have to say, while I am not convinced of his technical ability (not on same planet as most City players), his ability to get into key places and score key goals has saved our season so far! Today, he won 2 points, and against Everton, he won 1, which equates to 1 whole win down to him already in three games!

I thought he looked magnificent in ore-season, and he has continued to play well when asked. His effort cannot be faulted and it is criminal what happened to him after the goal. Mike Dean should be ashamed, and has gone down in the estimation of many people in the game. I can't overlook the fact that he was the ref for "that game," and don't hurt us, but today's performance was ridiculous. That was never a double dignit card game, but he makes those things happen by his inconsistency. Two incidents, virtually identical, one is a yellow, one is nothing. Players don't know where they stand.

And, if the crunching tackle on Jesus in the corner is "all part of the game" now again, then let's dance! However, in one game a player gets a SECOND yellow card (red!) for bumping another player on a high ball, yet a foot up (even though it got the ball) scything pincer tackle at full speed isn't "endangering an opponent?" GMAFB!

For my mind, it was a good strong challenge, but in today's game, that could have been a sending off...but want even a foul...and bitty little bullshit is pulled up and yellows are given! And, Defoe raking Silvas heel is a dirty fucking challenge...and he knew it...but he plays the angel and nothing!

Players simply don't understand the rules anymore (which is what Pep is trying to get across in the media), because threes are completely inconsistent and too often, it is THE PERSON, NOT THE FOUL they are officiating. That is bad refereeing.

think as fans we all need to get behind/cheer sterling and show him some support. the media in this country are a joke with him. hes becoming a really important players for us and i think hes only going to get better.

Sterling is - unexpectedly - our most important player this season.

In spite of his short comings - when the chips are down - he's come through - big time.

Big miss - and totally unfair - that he's ineligible due the the (completely unwarranted) red card he received.

Don't know why it's so unexpected, he was for a major part of last season as well.

Unexpected because Sterling is inconsistent as hell and continues to lack confidence in front of goal - given a clear cut scoring opportunity, he'll pass the ball even when a pass is clearly the worse option.
