He doesn’t half have some brain dead moments but compliments them with some bits of brilliance. With the opportunities he gets he should have much better goal scoring and assist stats though. Why on Earth he didn’t pass to Jesus was criminal and he should have scored with that lovely little inside out run he had. But he does keep getting better and I reckon by the time he’s 26 he’ll be a cracking player.

He didn’t pass to Jesus because he thought he was offside and he didn’t count on the player behind him nicking the ball if him

He’s not a patch in Leroy Sané. I think Sané is probably the second best young player in the world behind MBappe

His anticipation and timing is streets ahead of Sane. Sane is of course the more technically gifted but still has a lot to learn.

Thought Sterling had a great game vs physical opposition and coming back after a few weeks off injured. He looked physically stronger. Had a great assist for the first goal while running deep at exactly the right moment. Could’ve scored one or two but that is what you get with Sterling. As long as he creeps creating chances for others and himself.

I don't think he made a hash; I think the defender did really well but it was one of those moments where Raz could have borrowed Mario's t-shirt.
Agreed in real time it looked like she should have scored, on the replay all I could do was say fair play to the defender. Not much Sterling could have done, you can argue he should have been aware of the defender busting his lungs behind him to recover the situation but very few players have that kind of eyes in the back of your head awareness... which is guessing/anticipation and doesn't always change the outcome for the better.

I thought he played very well, another assist and a very tidy successful dribble through a packed Stoke penalty area that might have resulted in a goal if not for the keepers sharpness.

He is better than Sane. Yes, you can tell by Sane's best games that Sane's potential is way higher. But at the present tome, Sterling is just a better football player, period.

That this often goes unrecognized is a bit of a shame.
