Henry Winter said on last weeks Times Podcast that unless there's a late surge for VVD, Sterling will win the FWA POTY, so it sounds like he's won that one, maybe the journalists will go for Sterling and the players go for VVD. Which wouldn't be unfair really.
Although having said that, after hearing Rose and a few other black players talk about the importance of Sterling speaking up about racism and forcing it into the public consciousness again, it seems like they really appreciate him sticking his head above the parapet and maybe he will pick up a lot of votes from the players because of that too.
I can't help but feel like a POTY win would really complete this 3 season transformation storyline for Sterling, from the public enemy #1 and an anxious kid devoid of confidence on the pitch trying to fit into Pellegrini's one touch game, to the best player in the country, leading a national debate on racism and lifting multiple trophies.
