An official Liverpool briefing took place earlier today.

That briefing entailed no new bid from City, no contact from City for three weeks, and a continued insistence they are far from ready to deal at less than £50m.

Why do you think Sterling has gone to such extreme lengths this week?

Both he and his agent are flapping like mad and hoping to force the hand of Liverpool or City.

This deal will happen, but City will either have to blink first or drag this out as feasibly possible.

Hopefully, both teams being in the same part of the world might at least start a cordial discussion.

Would a formal transfer request from Sterling change things in terms of us reaching agreement with Liverpool? Presumably he'd then forsake any payments due to him which might help speed things along.

To me it would mean that we have missed out on a primary transfer target and would reduce the chance of us competing for major honours next year.

Remember, a lot goes to QPR, so I am sure they are trying to get as much as they can because it's not as much as it seems.

This. We want/need the player. If we call their bluff and he stays and goes for free next season the likelihood is that he wouldn't come to us after we let him down this season. I've no doubt he'll prove his worth over the next 5 years.
