If they won't budge from £50m, does anyone on here think we should walk away? I bet if we did, then their owners would be lauded, and we'd get slaughtered for leaving the player in the shit, just because we wouldn't cough up a bit more......we'll also get accused of holding a great club to ransom, and showing a lack of respect.....nailed on!

I don't think he's worth 50m, but my opinion doesn't matter. IF City thought he was worth 50m, then as somebody else said, this deal would probably be done by now.
I do think that if (for example) we think 45m is the absolute max, and Liverpool won't budge an inch, then yes, we walk away. Our limits can't be bent by Liverpool or any other club. We'll deal with the consequences of that, and Liverpool will have to deal with it at their end.

100% this.

In any case regardless of the real cost - MCRJON implied it was done so why are we debating this at all? ;-)

The absolute state of this transfer saga.

It would be a very rare case of both clubs cutting their nose off to spite their face if it doesn't go through.

Of course, but they could be testing Sterling as well, if he refuses to travel, they can start fining him, and their ex players can bring another shit storm down on him. Of course Sterling could call their bluff and go.

I would think that even if City are completely confident about getting him, then its in City's interests to get him into pre season training now, even if its with Liverpool.

I feel like all our transfers this summer are a game of a chicken to a greater or lesser extent. Liverpool, Juventus, and Wolfsburg will all want these deals done by a certain point as will City. The question is who blinks first. City quite clearly don't want to be seen to be doing that for the moment . It might well be at some point they will, but for the moment I'm calm and I suspect City are too.

Wouldn't be a case of that on our part, we just don't wanna be held for ransome, and rightly so. At £40m I would say he is severely overpriced never mind £50m.

Just a slight aside, and a bit of a philosophical note...

If we don't get Sterling, then City are no worse off than before.
If Liverpool don't sell Sterling, they are worse off, because they've got a massively disgruntled player on their hands.
