Tony Barrett in the Times said it is understood that we are preparing a bid to make Sterling one of our highest paid players

No link because it's behind a pay wall, but some Liverpool fan made a pdf

It's on the second page. Not sure if legit tho several on RAWK say it is
I cannot see it. He's a 20 year old player with an enormous amount wrong with his game. He's just another overhyped young player, like a number out there at the moment.

I'd actually be disappointed if we signed him full stop, never mind made him a big earner. There's SO MUCH better out there than Sterling!

Who is better, available and Home Grown?

Bale? (Not sure how available his though).

Sterling has potential but he is far from the finished article. I think he is greatly overvalued at present and only a slight improvement on Navas. Ok for 25M but wouldn't pay more than that.

He is way beyond Navas imo whose final ball and shooting leaves a hell of a lot to be desired.

You managed to name one player who might not be available and would cost twice as much. Sterling is overvalued relative to his ability but then all decent home grown players seem to be hugely overvalued so you have to compare him to other home grown players in terms of price. We need some home grown players so unless we scratch around buying players who will never get in the team which ends up being an even more false economy, we have to accept the fact that we are going to get ripped off for one or two decent home grown players along the line.

As those are Sterling's weak points too (he's missed many sitters this season), I maintain that he's not a significant upgrade.

Fair enough mate but whilst the home grown rule exists, clubs like ours will be forced to spend stupid money every year on a player just because he is home grown rather than an actual football need.

Another ridiculous piece of football legislation at work.

Rather pay the extra and go for Bale. Or pay significantly less for a less overvalued home grown player with potential (e.g. instead of Caballero) and use the money we have to spend on the real quality we need.

I just think we'd be making a mistake with Sterling. Maybe I have just seen him on his bad days but his end product has been pretty poor whenever I've seen him.

if all the scouse greats/has beens are coming out slagging him off as a greedy little boy who should just shut up and concentrate on playing football, it's got to be worth 25m just to piss them off...
