Wouldn't the same apply if they sold to us though, albeit on a lesser scale given the rivalry with us isn't as intense?

In fact, you could argue that selling to City would possibly be more humiliating for Liverpool, as they consider us a lesser club than themselves.

Nothing more humiliating than selling one of your prized assets to the team you consider your biggest foes.

Fair point, and I'm only really playing devil's advocate. It's far more likely that they would sell to us than United, although I'm sure they'd rather get a foreign buyer if at all possible. Can't see Sterling going abroad at this stage of his career though.

Telegraph seems to think Pedro could be a potential replacement for them at 7m pounds. Tbh Pedro isn't exactly a poor player - he scores 10-20 goals a season, and at that price maybe we should also be looking at him. He's 27 however.

abroad would be their preferred strategy, failing that Arsenal because to other big clubs they're considered inoffensive, then us as the alternative, which would actually force people to start painting us in a better light as the contrast to them selling to the Rags, which I can't see happening and if they did it would be one of the most staggering signings of all time, and would have Sterling under lock and key and security as the Dipper thugs would be out for him.

Whatever Lionel Messi's transfer value is, wouldn't be enough for John W Henry to cover his losses if the rags signed Sterling from Liverpool, in terms of the further reduction in the net worth of the LFC 'brand'.

It would be an act of utter humiliation for their supporters to endure. Some form, however slight, of a dominant/subservient relationship. It could tear the club apart.

Not going to happen.

His heads been turned and once a player sets his mind on something it's hard to change, Tevez is a prime example of that.

Thankfully he's shit at golf

Younger than most of our squad then!

Joking aside, Pedro will be a good signing for whoever gets him. A bit off topic, but wouldn't be averse to us moving for him if we fail to land Sterling.

Pedro has already been offered to us with him leaving Barca, we've obviously turned them down with other targets we're after, hence him being whored out to other clubs.

Yes but if they really are interested in Jovetic and Dzeko then maybe we can do a deal ...

I agree with that, if they take Jovetic in part exchange that would possibly mean around £20-£25m in cash which I think is a good deal

Well done Chris Sutton and Jermaine Jenas, good to see not everyone is slagging off the kid.
