The fact it's absolutely paramount we sign one or two English players to fill our already diminishing quota, I think it's pretty likely we will go for Sterling.

50m would be steep but the message it would send out about Liverpool willing to sell to a rival to be costly for their future business.

Liverpool do appear to be spinning a few things through media briefings. There's a few in the media running with stories that he is better off at Liverpool, he'll suffer at City or Chelsea, he's being greedy and Liverpool are able to survive without him. It would appear that they are at least readying the narrative for a sale.

If he goes, big if, they held onto Suarez for a season despite Arsenal matching his release clause, then we're in the mix with Chelsea and Arsenal. Could see them refuse to do business with Arsenal though as they're more direct top 4 rivals. Then it depends on whether he wants London or not.

Some muppet at the Telegraph put his name to a piece today that was clearly written by someone in the Liverpool press team. the more he gets slagged off for being greedy the more likely it is he's on his way imo, the ground is definitely being prepared by both parties.

Chris Bascombe? He has to be a scouser? You could have lifted that article straight from rawk.
Bascombe is indeed a scouser and I think used to be the Liverpool reporter for The Echo. So no agenda there then.

if Liverpool miss out on champions league football its going to hit them hard both on and off the field of play. Liverpool are not a top club anymore forget this crap about history and shit about champions league winners they have never won the premier league in 20 odd years

so selling players is what they do and have done players want the big silverware like premier league fa cup and champions league and liverpool have not been anywhere near winning silverware and getting top 4 every season for the past 6 seasons ok last season they was but you need to bank a place to build a team long term

Sterling coming to man city would be like gareth barry signing for us when Liverpool wanted him from villa the player can see a bight future at Manchester city and the long term is at Manchester city what we have here at the Etihad campus is the best in England and maybe the world

So according to a few of the papers, despite Brenda ruling out a sale Liverpool have put a £50m price tag on him because they are sure no one will pay that. It is certainly overpriced but in this market and the desperation for any good homegrown players, you couldn't rule out City or Chelsea (who have entered the running according to the Mail) paying that.

The scousers are playing with fire by putting a £50m price tag on him. No team would pay that amount for a player who has only 1 year left.

50m...
50m + his wages would probably make it way too costly for us since we have other positions to fill this summer. Might as well get Bale for that amount.

Even better just promote a few of the youngsters and bid on non-HG talent.
