Wasn't part of the 'arrangement' with Sterling supposed to be - we bid and then he puts a transfer request in?

We appear to have done our bit.

Its still a valid subject to debate. FFP means that we do not have an unlimited transfer budget, no matter how much Sheikh Mansour might be prepared to pay. The more we spend on Sterling the less there will be for other signings. "Overspending" on Sterling might just mean we "underspend" when it comes to replacing Kolarov.

And clubs do treat players that they have spent megabucks on differently to mid price signings. They get opportunities when their form might not justify it. In particular clubs are more reluctant to bite the bullet and sell a signing that hasn't worked out if they've spent a fortune on them. There's the FFP loss to into account, the damage to the DoF's reputation. There's always the temptation to give them one more season to prove themselve. Would we be taking the pragmatic decision to try to move Jovetic on if we had paid another £20m for him?

A Chelsea supporter who queried them paying £50m for Torres might have have met the same response, "its not your money" "Roman can afford it". But the sceptic would have been right. Clubs become too invested in big money signings. Overpaying can cost the club points and trophies.

Good points mate.....I think the only other thing to think about, is how the deal is put together....in my mind, City can pay the extra 10mil but add an extra year to Sterling's contract to spread the amount over a longer period, meaning the hit this year is less and would have no impact on FFP spending for the club....I must admit I'm one of those that don't worry about the cost, just want us to improve the team but understand we still need to balance the books each year under these pathetic FPP rules...

Really Cibaman.

If we buy Sterling on a five year deal for £40 Million then it's £8 Million per year towards FFP, for £50 Million it's £10 Million per year. As the wages will be the same we are talking about an extra £2 million a year we have to find.

Is that really that much of an issue considering we will be saving about £6 million a year on Milner and Sinclairs ammorisation costs even before the wages are accounted for

Think I'll leave the FFP problem to our owners and board I'm pretty sure they know what they're doing.

Just for the naysayers about Sterling

For my sins, I heard an interview this morning on talksport with that odious cretin JT. He was out in china doing some PR work. He was asked about Sterling to City, and he anwered saying he understands why he would come to us as its a step up and has a chance to win trophies, then he went on to say that the fee is as it is because of the English factor, but moreover that he is the best. He said he (Sterling) gave him so much trouble last year that we are buying a superb player. If thats coming from probably the best centre half in the league last season, that Sterling is one of the hardest to play against, I dont think you can get much better evaluation of what we are investing in here. JT didn't need to say anything posotive about City whats so ever, but he just spoke how he felt.

Factor in Kun and David Silva playing with him, rather than what Liverpool had to offer attack wise last season.Frightening for any defense in Europe.

That's good to hear. If this Raheem played for Santos he'd be rated just the same as Neymar was. People are just moaning about the price because they prefer exotic names.

A lot of people are judging him from the end of last season. He will say himself he wasn’t playing the way he can. I just think the fact he's only 20 and is only going to get so much better means we could be signing a real talent.
