I'm firmly in the camp that we shouldn't offer the cheeky bastards more than our second offer. If rejected move on and get better value with a Reus or pay the full fee Juve want for Pogba.

Players like Benteke should have a rethink about going to Liverpool. What happens if they don't satisfy his ambitions in the future then same thing would happen.

Yeah, it would leave us in a bit of a quandary. Do we stump up the full £50m and avoid missing out on the player, but look weak from a negotiating point of view?

Or do we gamble and hope they blink first before the window closes?

Decisions, decisions...

We knew the price from the off and should have known that Liverpool have a reputation for being utter cunts with any player that wants to leave. If we do put a "final" offer in for £40M with £5M in add ons and they turn it down, which seems likely, then we would look utter fools if we finally coughed up £50M. It will have meant a lot of unnecessary hassle for Sterling and a lot of bad blood between City and Liverpool for nothing.

Can't think of many occasions when such a valuable player has been "left to rot in the reserves". Presume we'll just end up paying the asking price to ensure the deal happens, so Liverpool can look like the moral victors in the media.

Ok, in my opinion it is. Currently the squad isn't capable of challenging on all 4 fronts. Yaya is another year older. We need world class additions and Sterling would improve our first team, with the added bonus of being home grown and young. He also plays in a problem position for us. Pogba will be hard to attain and I have no idea who our second targets are. Hamsik is the only one I've hears and he's not what we need at all.
So please tell me if we miss out on Sterling, who can we realistically sign who's just as good?

He's not the only addition that will improve us.

You used the word hyperbole. Not me.

I think we've handled this transfer pretty badly to be honest, especially when we will surely end up paying the full £50 million.

It feels like we're trying to be too cute and clever, rather getting the ball over the line.
