No offence to Txiki and I appreciate him trying to save a few mil but Torres to Chelsea was a carbon copy of this transfer. We might not like it but Liverpool were never going to buckle on the price.

Torres was nothing like this transfer. He put a transfer request in a day or two before the end of the window, and the first we heard of a deal was when it was done.

What? No it wasn't at all. Chelsea's interest was known for ages but they refused to meet Liverpool's valuation until the last day.

The saving is minimal to Liverpool, mate.

He has £2.5m due to him in wages over the remainder of his contract.

No club ever pays the full amount up and Sterling would do well to get 30 per cent of it even if he had been a good boy.

I did get a sense today from the Liverpool pack that they would deal at £45m plus £5m in potential adds.

His agent even tried to leak renewed interest of Chelsea recently to try and give City a shove.

It's one thing being confident in terms of an agreement with the player, but we also must consider how we start to come across to other players we go after in the future?

We certainly can't leave him high and dry.

Perhaps Sterling has refrained from handing in a request to give himself an out?

Mad as it sounds, there is always a way back, as
Though a big sum surely just forgoing it like Dinho did would be more than compensated by us

Why we all flapping because one paper claims they are going to make him rot?

Itk claimed it was done before and sky/other media are saying we are in discussions with Liverpool. Just relax and wait to see if anything happens before Sunday's tour.

You can see why we've struggled to get transfers like Hazard and Isco done, when we're the only club in for Sterling and still struggling with the negotiations.

Id be amazed if we got Pogba over the line with the tactics we seem to be using.

It wasn't even a transfer story until he put the request in. It was a miserable twat that clearly wanted to leave story.

Just pay the money. The whole thing is ridiculous.
Yes he's not worth 50m but there's no point in losing out for a couple of million like we did hazard and Isco.

Signed a 6 year contract not even a year ago today. £45m buy out but not homegrown, not as young and no indication whatsoever that the player wants to move.

Schneiderlin qualifies as homegrown. Pay the buy out clause and he will. Chelsea are interested in signing him, and no indication whatsoever that the player doesn't want to move.

No the telegraph says dippers won't accept 45m only 50

Will say it one last time.

An official Liverpool briefing took place earlier today.

That briefing entailed no new bid from City, no contact from City for three weeks, and a continued insistence they are far from ready to deal at less than £50m.

Why do you think Sterling has gone to such extreme lengths this week?

Both he and his agent are flapping like mad and hoping to force the hand of Liverpool or City.

This deal will happen, but City will either have to blink first or drag this out as feasibly possible.

Hopefully, both teams being in the same part of the world might at least start a cordial discussion.

It'll get done.

Him and his agent aren't the only ones starting to flap. I hate prolonged messy transfers just want this done and dusted.

With all this racist crap put his way plus the phone number leak. Where would he stand ie contract to the club if proven who put the number out? Reckon he could take the bins to court for the lolz?

This is the sad answer really. Still think we will get some big deals done this window because surely Txiki won't survive another shit transfer window.

Just pay the fucking money, I feel sorry for the lad, he obviously want's to play for us. We'd all be going mad if Madrid had tapped up Aguero/Silva (as example's) but wouldn't meet our valuation.

Ah, didn't realise the payment due to him would be that low.

Like you say, don't think we'll leave him high and dry so am sure the deal will get done even if it means us backing down over the fee.

For the sake of £5m what are we actually trying to prove?

"Liverpool wanted £50m, they rejected our first two bids well below that but then we got them to deal at... Get this.... £45m, we're so great"
