Newcastle is absolutely zero chance.
Raheem already earns £300k a week and already a very wealthy man, to the point he only wants to join Madrid, Paris or Barca.
If not, he will sit tight for another 18 months and then walk for free and still be able to choose.
Barca is mutually convenient for all parties concerned, which is why Raheem is pretty calm about his City situation at present.
I think the Pep comments recently about Barca 'being able to take any player they want' is pretty telling. He's essentially asking them to come and get Sterling who obviously wouldn't say no.
It's just how he goes. Can they afford a £45-50m fee for him? Will they try and give us a fringe player in return like Dembele? Or will they be serious and get a star off their wage bill (FDJ please) and potentially get a little something from us as a profit like the Cancelo/Danilo deal?
I hope it's the latter purely because De Jong would be a scandal in this team but I think the end result here is that Sterling sees out his contract then gets a juicy (but cheaper than a transfer fee) signing on bonus from somebody:-
- Real's toy this Summer will be Mbappe
- Barca's won't necessarily need a big name signing IMO because of the buzz that Xavi will bring (like us in 2016 with Pep, signing Nolito/Sane/Bravo/a then injury prone Ilkay who weren't really marquee signings)
- PSG's toy this Summer will be Pogba/chasing Haaland
