If he signs a new deal I hope it invigorates him to keep improving and concentrating on getting back to his best. There’s a risk he could become complacent knowing that his prime years are sorted (depending on the length of the contract obviously) and just maintain his current efforts. I’m not fussed either way. For me he’s a squad player and wouldn’t be in my first 11 given his form. All my opinion of course.

A couple of years ago two men were convicted at court for racially ab usi g Sterling, both men in their late 50s and lifelong City fans. Bournmouth match I think. 5 year ban and fined.
Other City fans reported and witnessed the incident.
Which would you categorize that as abuse or criticism ?
So out of probably hundreds of thousands of attendees , two people racially abuse Raheem and you post it on here , we all wish we lived in your perfect world but unfortunately 0.000000000001% will be a dickhead.

Great news with him signing a contract. There isn't a single player in the squad who I wouldn't be delighted if they extended. This is the sort of squad we will only appreciate once they've gone.

Every single one of them is world class. Up the Blues!

Bernardo - The most hardworking technically gifted player the PL has ever seen
Mahrez - One of the best wingers in PL history - PFA player of the year for Leicester
Sterling - The best goal scoring winger in history after Salah
Foden - Arguably the best young player in world football
Gundogan - Unbelievable talent - Arguably Germanys best midfielder
De Bruyne - The best midfielder in world football
Grealish - Unbelievable technical ability and ball retention - will certainly become a superstar next season.

We're absolutely blessed - not to mention Palmer and McAtee coming through

I think for those that pretend Sterling hasn't been abused or they think that he is fairly criticised then go and look at the player performance thread.

Look at the number of pages all the other players have got and then take a look at the size of Sterling's, then go away and think that an average of 40 pages for the other players and a thread up to 250 pages by January is fair and consistent with how other players have played or haven't played and then commented on, it is ludicrous to even think Sterling is commented on in a fair and impartial fashion and that is both ways but I can at least understand his defenders doing so.

There has been plenty of abuse on here for those that are too blind to see it, in his player threads or in the matchday thread, where it goes way above general criticism of a player out of form.
That thread is the reason I’ve stopped posting in that part of the forum. All it was was people who wouldn’t accept people criticising him like some sort of protection party (that no other player has ever had when they’ve been criticised heavily, like Gundogan Mahrez and Stones, whose threads were allowed to just become pages of ongoing criticism with barely any comebacks), going round in circles with people criticising him.

It was a disaster of a thread. I don’t know if it’s got better as I haven’t really been in that part of the forum this season after Grealish’s thread started to follow the exact same pattern. But it was just the same argument being had week-after-week.

I don’t think there was any ulterior motive to anyone criticising or anyone being overprotective… I think those criticising see a player who struggles with most of the basics of the game, and when they’ve watched David and Bernardo Silva and Yaya Touré etc. over the years who are the opposite, they compare Raheem’s basics to theirs. What they don’t understand though is that Sterling is more about the goals and assists he brings to the team with his pace, timing of his runs and never being injured, more than he is a good all-round player… I think those protecting him and not allowing any criticism did so as a reaction to the media and Liverpool fans’ treatment of Sterling for daring to leave a Redshirt. It was one of those things where everyone else was slagging him off so they feel like no City fan can.

It’s the same with Grealish; he was signed for £100m and is getting boo’d by everyone and stories keep coming out in the press about him being on the piss and at the weekend it was another story about him cheating on his missus… all because he was linked with United at one point but joined City… the protection party seem not to allow the criticism and the criticisers seem to be jumping the gun.

Not to mention the amount of times his threads have needed to be cleaned up , lots of out of order abuse
That’s usually the two sides of the argument letting their arguments go too far and then calling each other names.

Half of the Sterling thread isn’t about Sterling, it’s just people moaning at each other.
