On another important note.......Sterling has never really displayed a passion or affection for the club in the same way others have done,this has obviously left some feeling much lesser warmth for him.

he is an employee . i don't care if he likes us or not as long as he brings us titles , which he has .

frustrating yes at times , but i love the guy.

im sure people say it the other way, the reason he is given ott support is because he gets ott criticism , at the end of the day he plays for city and doesn't get any leeway from certain posters on here and i really don't know why, hes produces for us and can be very frustrating as well .
 
At the moment there's only Chelsea showing any interest if he does decide to go. His high wage demands would prove a problem for many teams.
Can see him leaving as a free agent next year.
 
I just wonder who will become the new boo boy when Sterling and Jesus leave? There always has to be at least one player who gets the (usually undeserved) criticism.

He's been a fantastic servant to the club, has as big a trophy haul as any of our other players, scored loads of goals and got loads of assists, is well liked by his teammates and has always done his talking on the pitch. Compared to some of the other legends like Yaya, he's an absolute angel. In fact, even without comparing them, he's been a fantastic professional.

All of his achievements seem to be acknowledged in a begrudging way. Any time the lad gets praised, certain sections of the fanbase feel a really weird compulsion to have to try and top it by giving even more criticism. If you say that you'll remember him as a club legend, you'll get people telling you why you're wrong and listing a bunch of criteria which many other club legends don't tick. If you praise a performance, they'll criticise the opposition. If you praise a particular passage of play, they'll tell you why they think it wasn't as good as you believe.

I honestly don't think I've seen such unachievable standards set for a player of ours, even for those much more talented than he is. We've been far more forgiving towards players who have done far less with far more to offer.

That's all before we even get onto the insinuations about his character, despite there being no evidence to back it up.

His detractors amongst our supporters have an answer for everything, even if they're just the same circular, meaningless comments repeated again and again, to the whoops and hollers of others who share their disdain.

It's not about whether people rate him or not; I get why he's divisive as a footballer and I get just as frustrated with him as any right minded City supporter during matches but I simply don't get why so many of us are so proud of not rating him and will scream about it until they're blue in the face.

I'd like to think that he'll be remembered much more fondly a few years after he's left because I genuinely think he deserves better from us.

I, like you, get hugely frustrated with him sometimes during games, I’m always confident he will miss if clean through, and he often seems incapable of doing the simple things well. Then, he scores that tap in, that only him or Gundo ever seem to score, he puts that cross in against Villa, he runs at a defender and makes him look silly and I am on the edge of my seat.
He is frustrating as a footballer but only because he could be so much more than the very good one he is now.

Finally, not appreciating what you’ve got till it’s gone is a real risk with Sterling, as there’s loads of stuff he does that people don’t see unless they’re looking for it.
He creates more spaces for other people to run into than any footballer I’ve ever seen and his running into space and his off the ball running is extraordinary. It might be that his time here is up but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him kick on again, as he’s done all his career, and that might just come back and bite us on the arse!

I also think the same thing applies to other players who we love. Not all of them were Zabaleta and Kompany.

I think it's just a convenient way to dismiss overly harsh criticism.

As you might remember we used to fall out about him and I used to stick up for him to the hilt as I saw what he brought to the team even if he wasn’t playing well with his movement and work rate. That disappeared a few years back now and although I think he’s been a major part in our successes since he’s been here is very hard to argue against the fact that he should have been sold at least 12 months ago. Staying to run his contract down is a decision he really shouldn’t be making if he wants to be remembered fondly amongst city fans.
