Rainbow laces campaign

So, genuine question, do you think it isn't a player's decision whether or not he wears them? Or could a decision have been taken at a management level?

I certainly don’t think a decision was taken at management level. And I doubt that many players actively chose not to either. I think a lot of it was down to a lack of awareness. Players often live in a bubble. Maybe, as @BlueMooney said earlier, it should’ve been mandatory with players having to opt-out if they weren’t comfortable with it?

well I think that would cause tensions, so I think a blanket "Vinnie will wear the armband" suffices.

Maybe, but I can’t really imagine what tensions it would really cause. Perhaps I’m being naive, but I can’t imagine anyone in that dressing room harbours truly homophobic views to the extent that they’d have an issue with anyone wearing rainbow laces?

I am all for live and let live, in modern society the vast majority of people are tolerant to most things involving race religion and sexuality, there are of course remaining pockets of ignorance.

These pockets are in decline and no matter what campaigns are run by the media, establishment or activist groups some will remain. I am afraid I take the view the in general these things do little to change anyones mind, the remaining hardcore racists or homophobe certainly wont be influenced and if anything I think they have the opposite effect, and serve only to keep a good few people in highly paid jobs.

Apart from rags i generally have no problem with anyone, though I do have a problem with being constantly force fed propaganda telling me whom I should like, what I should eat, and that we are all in it together.

It would be nice if people could attend a football match to forget for 90 minutes all the shite in the outside world, and be left to be angry happy gutted or delighted due to what happens on the pitch, and personally would prefer it if all this was left outside the stadium.

In my experience by and large left alone to work it out for themselves people usually find a way to rub along and am sorry In my book most of these things are little more than a few graduates and wannabe politicians making a killing and creating a platform for themselves they would never have in a million years.

Davis Silva's latest haircut makes him look like a neo-Nazi. If anyone harbours such thoughts, I'll wager it's him.

I'm sure a certain Irish born West Brom player will agree very much with your thoughts....
