Was wondering what would happen to a Manchester resident who was originally from Scotchland and wearing his Rangers shirt. He's been in the pub near his apartment and was just calling to the bank for some cash before the game kicked off. Just received this "reassurance message" at work.....

Dear All,

GMP have advised that Glasgow Rangers football fans are to be kept out of Manchester City Centre for the Champions League game against Manchester United on Tuesday 14th Sep.
Instead the Ibrox fans will gather at Wigan Athletic's ground and they will then be bussed the 25 miles to Old Trafford under a police escort.
The DW Stadium in Wigan has been designated as an official holding ground before kick-off with catering and rest facilities also being provided.
It will be the only stop-off point on the journey south for the Scots fans and it has also been designated as the official ticket-collection point.
A police escort will take the fans to Old Trafford in a convoy of buses.
Rangers have been given 3,783 tickets and only registered travelclub members will be eligible whilst all fans who get a ticket must travel on official coaches.
The move is designed to keep all Rangers fans from entering Manchester City Centre in order to prevent any repeat of the trouble during the 2008 UEFA Cup final in Manchester.
The measures have been brought in after a series of meetings involving Rangers, United, Greater Manchester and Strathclyde Police and fans groups while the authorities are adamant there will be no repeat of the scenes from 2008.
Meanwhile a group of 12 men were sentenced in Manchester on Fri 03rd Sep for their part in the UEFA Cup Final disorder of May 2008.
The convictions ranged from three and a half years in prison to a suspended sentence and community service along with a series of lengthy football banning orders, the sentences awarded to the group totalled 16 years in custody.

tbf they were encouraged to come into the city without tickets and have a piss up while watching on the big screens

shouldn't have put the screens up which caused it to kick off in the first place when one of them failed

no screens this time and so no reason for the surplus visitors to congregate in town anyway

anyway they were playing in Manchester last time. this time they're not. wigans probably closer anyhow tbf.... ;-)

Fans were told not to travel without tickets on numerous occasions, yet thousands turned up anyway. They knew this would happen so they backed down and put screens up to try appease the fans. They responded by smashing windows, pissing all over the place and throwing missiles at the poor bastard trying to fix the screen so they could watch the game. Ungrateful much?
