I don’t understand why they don’t go and live in Ireland, they fly Irish flags and support the IRA.
I think they are very happy where they are - it's just that they want the rest of us to join them and turn the country green. Funny that it's called 'The Emerald Isle' and the orange part of the flag ne'er seems to get a sniff.

Almost as cringe as the pantomime displays we see at Ibrox every rememberence Sunday. There's various ways of showing respect and drawing as much attention to yourselves as possible is not one of them. 'Look at us! Look how British we are!'. Thankfully most up here see right through it.

As for the other lot, no shock there either I'm afraid.

Are all displays and banners not for drawing attention to it and for it to be seen?
You could break that down to why wear a poppy in the first place, that's a look at me statement?!

The sort of thing I liked about Rangers before I ditched them after 2008’s antics.

Our nationality is British (it’s not English, Scottish or Welsh). I like British iconography, think it’s proper cool: Mods, British invasion, Britpop, Cool Britannia… and Rangers to me were always the team of Britain, especially since we don’t have a British national football team while we do in rugby league and union. So I did like them.

I lived in the city centre in 2008 and I was in Town that day with the Rangers fans and was right behind them to win the final, but I felt like they weren’t respecting the city at all… saw some of the most disgusting lack of respect from visitors to a city you could imagine, even before the riot took place Town stunk of piss, there was rubbish just being thrown everywhere, locals were being verbally abused, shops (especially newsagents selling beer) were being robbed. Then the riot took place, I know our council fucked up there but talk about an overreaction! Do residents cars need smashing up or burning out just because you can’t watch a game of footy?

But they’re still not as bad as their pro-IRA singing, anti-British banner waving, terrorist banner holding neighbours for me. About 40 minutes of pro-IRA songs we endured when they came to our place. We’ve been bombed six times by the IRA in our local area with two kids being killed in Warrington. Imagine us going up to Celtic when we played them a few years ago and singing songs about killing innocent Irish victims of the British army for nearly half the game… we’d be kicked out of European competitions for a season!

That top image is great and I believe they fucked off UEFA’s decision not to allow the British club to play God Save The King this week and they played it anyway! Good on em haha

I think you have a point, but I also think that joining in with what's seen as 'the norm' on these occasions ie joining in a minutes silence and players wearing black armbands would be dignified and respectful. The fact people up and down Britain are now talking about rangers fans 'display' has made it look more about them than actually simply respecting the queen. I thought the Etihad last night was a credit to how things should be done.

I actually agree with much (but not all) of the sentiment throughout the rest of your post, but this particular bit raised an eyebrow when you consider what the Rangers fans sing about every week. The volunteers of the UVF, the YCV, and all the rest of it - just because its not innocent British deaths their glorifying but innocent Irish Catholic, it doesn't make it any better whatsoever. To quote Jimharri, two cheeks of the same arse.

It is what it is. Over the top, uncesssary displays which draws support from the daily mail, the ginger lassie who's the new KT Hopkins of twitter and a load of the wrong sorts of people. You tell me there's no agenda and it's all about respect? Come on.

Think I said to you before, it's unfortunate that the first European final in decades ended up in Manchester which was so easily accessible to all the pond life as well as normal supporters.

Unfortunately we have that ned element in our support, and our country in general, that don't even really follow football, it's just something to attach themselves to to go out and get pissed and cause massive disruption, and they were able to jump in cars, buses and trains down to Manchester too easily.

Unfortunately that stain will always be on us, but fans behaviour in Seville was generally very good, and that wasn't even typical numbers from a supporters point of view.

Some of the songs and beliefs, well that's another issue.

As someone of strong Irish (Catholic) heritage this element of Celtic's support makes me ashamed. So much so that during their sectarian/racist hate fest when they played at the Etihad in the CL, I left the ground just after half time with lots of other decent fans. They made me feel physically sick.
My main issue is that the vast majority of Celtic's support are Scottish-born but they wrap themselves in the Irish flag. My family (from all over Ireland) used to call these sort of people "plastic paddies." The normal response when you challenge these scumbags is: "Rangers are worse than us." I think if you use Rangers fans as your role model you are setting the bar low.
I should add that I love Scotland, lived there for years, and will probably move back. I have many pals who are Celtic/Rangers fans, who also like City. They are decent people who feel the same way about elements of their support that I do.
