Souness was the same as Gerrard when he was appointed first time, in fact Souness was appointed Player Manager.
Smith was promoted just from Souness assistant, and had only ever actually managed at Scotland youth levels.
They weren't great managers in their own right when they were hired.
However, I totally agree, outwith Gerrard and McInnes, the options don't look great at all. I'm still intrigued by Muscat, although I understand the desire for a 'safer' pair of hands.
I bet you're secretly gutted.
My only posts on the Gerrard thread was that I had heard the names Gerrard, McAlister, Defoe, Culshaw and Billy Reid from a couple of days ago. I heard that from a client who have corporate stuff at Rangers so no idea how reliable the info they get are.
I do get all the concerns mate, I don't think Gerrard is perfect by any means, but I do think given how lost we are we need someone that can unite the club and fanbase first and foremost, we need a leader, we need someone that will come in and give the team a structure, that the players will identify with and respect, and that understands the demands of the club, and of Scottish football, and Gerrard ticks those boxes.
