Rangers thread | 2025/26

That’s almost a C&P from FF or I’ve found your login in FF : )))))

OK he did well winning 55 but I’d counter your argument with….

He was given funding to rebuild and stop them getting 10. His mate , Dave King, admitted the funding was front loaded

He inherited an excellent Tavenier and Ryan Jack who were excellent. He also inherited a very motivated Morelos!! We have no player of their standard at the moment

That Celtic team were well past their best and very much hanging on to get the ten. Much like our 9 in a row team.

He was lucky to keep his job after losing to Hamilton just before the lock down.

You can’t just gloss over failing to win any domestic cup competition. Failing to reach group stages of the Champions league. Blocking the sales of Kent and Morelos (among others) costing the club tens of millions as these players went on to leave at end of contracts.

He did win 55 and I’ll be forever grateful. The manky mob completely imploded under the pressure of ‘10’. I believe our players benefited greatly from the empty stadium. We saw in previous seasons the post winter collapses from promising positions.
Souness was the same as Gerrard when he was appointed first time, in fact Souness was appointed Player Manager.

Smith was promoted just from Souness assistant, and had only ever actually managed at Scotland youth levels.

They weren't great managers in their own right when they were hired.

However, I totally agree, outwith Gerrard and McInnes, the options don't look great at all. I'm still intrigued by Muscat, although I understand the desire for a 'safer' pair of hands.

I bet you're secretly gutted.

My only posts on the Gerrard thread was that I had heard the names Gerrard, McAlister, Defoe, Culshaw and Billy Reid from a couple of days ago. I heard that from a client who have corporate stuff at Rangers so no idea how reliable the info they get are.

I do get all the concerns mate, I don't think Gerrard is perfect by any means, but I do think given how lost we are we need someone that can unite the club and fanbase first and foremost, we need a leader, we need someone that will come in and give the team a structure, that the players will identify with and respect, and that understands the demands of the club, and of Scottish football, and Gerrard ticks those boxes.
Ur ye raging?

I have to thank so many on FF right now for lifting the spirits of this guy.

Its not going down well. I dint rate Skippy, but the utter anguish is like haemoglobin to a Vampire. Its a kick in the
Flutes and no mistake.

Who next? If they don't get DelBoy, I'm ordering a skip of popcorn.. Marvellous stuff.

I’m delighted. I’m going to run out of laughing emojis on FF. The panty wetters are out in force

In bed early as I’m away on holiday tomorrow and got woke up with texts from raging Bears hahaha

My realistic choice was always Muscat and failing that Del Boy. Obviously Lampard was No.1 but he ll be holding out for a reasonably decent EPL job

Good time to.get out of Dodge.

You’re probably right….

Talk of Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna.

That’ll be Kieran , Kevin and Patrick running the club. Times have certainly changed: ))))
I read that on FF. Dont know anything abiut him.

Very highly thought of so I’m doubting he’s coming to Scotland. Did a great job at Ipswich and possibly ex Chelsea but not too sure

ETA…. Just google checked and it was Spurs not Chelsea and asst at United before Ipswich. Just been named Championship MOTM

Whoever takes it, has zero time after this. Your mob will be spitting nails if you lose a 50/50, never mind a goal.

They obviously told him the January budget.

Probably still spend more than us.

I think it's too big a job for these types and needs an experienced Mourinho/Mancini type (not necessarily them) to come in for a year to settle things down - otherwise it's rinse and repeat next season. Maybe they can't afford it if they're paying off varoius managers contracts.

Gerrard isn't a good manager and was managing LFC U18 before he got the Rangers job (inside job from what I heard).

Time waster. If he doesn’t fancy the Rangers job, he’s not got the minerals for a serious job. He was awful at Villa, took the Saudi bag - Rangers is the best he’s going to get. Who does he think he is?!

He obviously doesn’t think he can do it. But if you’re a chairman of any club considering him in the future you must think - if he doesn’t fancy his chances in a 2 horse league, what good is he to us??

This…..

I would have thought this was THE job for him. After failing miserably at Villa and then failing in Saudi.

He would be backed financially by new and ambitious board. He would have had the backing of a support who hold him in high regard

It was absolutely the perfect fit for him but hey Ho. I’ve not hidden my thoughts and TBH I’m relieved and believe we’ve dodged an expensive bullet

Agree on Gerrard.

As for Mourinho / Mancini we have little to no chance of attracting them . Possibly an outside chance of Mourinho before he took his latest job as he has always spoken highly of our game and Rangers as a club. We held on to that fraud Martin for far too long so that boat has sailed.

McInnes would be a popular, low risk, appointment as he’s very much one of our own. Was talking to somebody close to him when he was at Killie and he said he’d take the job in a heartbeat. That was then and this is now. He has Hearts top of the league and Tony Bloom backing them. Maybe it’s safer to stay where he is.

Another problem with McInnes is his family. I’m not sure they want the baggage that goes with being an Old Firm manager. He lives happily locally and can walk around with next to no hassle. That changes the day he signs on at Ibrox

Find it impossible to believe that Mourinho was ever a realistic shout at any stage. Always thought that was pure fantasy that gained a load of traction on FF because he said a few nice things about Rangers and Ibrox once.

McInnes seems to have a really good thing going at Hearts just now so not sure why he'd leave there, having only recently joined, to come to the complete basket case that is Rangers and all the baggage you mention that comes with it.

I honestly don't know how you sell this job to any manager of substance at the minute. It should be a huge pull because of the institution that Rangers is, but just look at what a shit show it is at present. That's why we're fishing around for either unemployed guys well beneath the profile of a Mourinho, or these young unproven guys like Rohl.

Loads of mentions of Muscat as well. Is that because he's done well in the far east so fans are imagining he'll come in and replicate what Ange achieved at Celtic?

One thing that seems certain, this season looks like a write off because whoever comes in, this squad is not suddenly putting in a run of form to put us back in title contention.
