I wouldn't disagree but where would we have been without Haaland's five goals. Kev undoubtedly stepped up from previous performances since the world cup and could have flogged his arse off crossing, passing, slide rule, but without the Viking's contribution it would have been a shaky start to the second half - 0-0 going into the break - and then that fuckin' ref was a whisker away from sending someone off for what would probably have been fuck all! Haaland made it one of those 'special European nights' so beloved of the RDAHMeedya but only when broadcast from Anfield or the Swamp. Not at all. Kevin de Bruyne was the best player on that pitch last night. There’s nothing churlish in that, it’s almost ruder to think that scoring goals means you had a better game than someone who ran the game in midfield.
Haaland was dangerous as fuck and could have ended up with seven himself if he’d stayed on, but the game was won in the manner it was and Haaland scored those goals because of the way de Bruyne influenced the game.
Haaland even said himself that he should have done better with a few of de Bruyne’s crosses and scored more goals in the first half.
He is such a good player, every gameSo as not to make this a banana republic vote, I'm going for Nathan. Just quietly going about his business to be one of the best — if not the best — defenders in the league this season.
It's difficult, though. Many others I could choose. Bernardo was astonishing. I say again — if we lose this guy, it truly is a terrible loss.
