RB Leipzig (H) | Post Match Thread

Heavy touch and Ederson got between man and ball, I think it would have been unfair to book the Leipzig player, it was what is known in reffing parlance as a coming together, Though i disagree, Eddie could have easily walloped it into the top bins from halfway in our half

The Leipzig player was booked for dissent, not being clattered.

Ederson needs to be careful with these challenges, though. He is going to cost us big time one day.

Goals change the course of games, and when the first two goals are dubious, it's going to affect how the rest of the match plays out. If Leipzig could've kept a clean sheet until the break and Ederson had been shown the red card, who knows what might have happened.

Let me make this clear: City are a WAY better team. They are going to win this fixture 99 out 100 times, especially at the Etihad. But they shouldn't have received those favors from the referee. Leipzig were denied any real shot at this game because of him.

We saw how Milan and Inter went through by digging in and playing ultra defensively (albeit against worse teams). Had a similar referee been in charge of their games, they wouldn't have had a chance.
Such refereeing performances bring the game into a state of disrepute. I don't think it's in City's best interest to win like this either.

In short: Congrats on your advancement. Massive performance. But I don't want to hear you guys ever complain about refs again.
Look you Tarquin buffoon (nothing new there then!) .....
1) We weren't given any 'favors' by the ref, believe me, we are the last team in the universe to get afforded such!
2) Eddie's brainfart, was at very worse a yellow card, there were plenty of players between the Leipzig player and the goal so clearly not a red card offence!
3) The pen was greatly received, dubious maybe and I would have been pissed if it would have been awarded against us and we've had plenty of such in the past, but that's the rules right now and VAR + the Ref agreed that it was handball - so end of story there!
4) With regard to your comment...
If Leipzig could've kept a clean sheet until the break
well its the old "if my Auntie had balls....." !!
5) The only point i will concede is that the ref was indeed abysmal, for both teams actually, as the bookings for the Leipzig player after Eddie's brainfart and KDB's booking, after Jack was fouled only serve to illustrate! But that is so often the norm in the CL, which you may witness yourselves should you make it into there next season.

And what was dubious about the first 2 goals? The ball hits an outstretched hand. I hate the handball rules as they are, but the rules say that's a penalty. That's not an interpretation of the rules, that's just the rules.
I sort of prefer the handball rule as interpreted in Europe, truth be told. None of this "spirit of the law" or "intentional/unintentional" mind reading phenomenology. If your arms are up in a weird shape and the ball touches below your sleeve it's a handball.

That’s a like just for using the word ‘buffoon’.

I'm not just saying it because of tonight, I'm saying this because the past 4/5 years in particular he's been absolutely sensational...

John Stones is the best centre back in world football. Genuinely wouldn't take anyone over Stonesy. We are a much much better team when Stones is fit and in our starting 11. He's come on leaps and bounds the last few seasons he has such mature performances now, The first few seasons of "John Stones has a mistake in his game" he has rectified that, He has a massive presence, So composed, His positional sense, Sniffing out danger, Passing between the lines and what I love most about him now he bullies centre forwards he's in charge.

He's fucking immense.
I agree with all this, with Johnny as a CH.
As a fullback, he is sometimes found wanting due to the lack of positional sense, through not being a natural fullback. In the big games, this may well hurt us. However, no doubt the Pepmeister already knows this and will have Walker back from here on in in Europe............ then again, I could be wrong as Pep knows best!

Erling was immense and obviously deserves MOM, but seeing KDB back to that level was just as satisfying for me.

As an aside; you can forgive Arsenal fans for not having a clue about UCL laws of the game. Its nigh on a decade since they've been in it.
Agreed, and I'd like to add that Bernie was also excellent - never stopped running, unreal, Tevez-esque.
