Re mem mem, remember, member….. 29 years ago today…..

The FA Cup game was dreadful until John Gidman equalised in the last minute. Went fucking mental for that one, as I did for Lakey's last minute equaliser in the next round v Blackpool. Really enjoyed our cup runs that season.
Yep, Gidman scored one of the goals I’ve celebrated most: almost last kick of game. I missed the Blackpool game but made the Plymouth match, came up again from Pompey. Paul Simpson late goal I think to wrap up a 3-1 win, after very nervy spell. Missed the QF hammering by Liverpool. Barnes et al took us to the absolute cleaners. Think we also got to League Cup Quarters that year - went to Everton away, one of, if not the worst experience as a City fan, got coach with several City “heads” who brought down a box for everyone to pick their favourite “tool” as they’d arranged to “have it with their firm” once we got there. We arrived, minus all the windows we’d set off with. I arrived, minus half my small colon.

The forest thrashing was the highlight, Eric Nixon saving a Stuart Pearce pen (his first miss) after their forward was sandwitched (not many given for that these days) to stop their glimmer of hope at 3-0. The Watford game, the Plymouth FA Cup game (as well as Simod), and the come back in the second leg at Wolves all standing out. In the end we were beaten in the QF of the LC and FAC by Everton and Liverpool who were both top when we played them. Mike Stowell's debut at Blackburn really ended out promotion hope though.

The best thing about the 10-1 was Swales bemoaning the cost of having 3 match Mitre Delta balls given to the hat trick men.

I think it was Simpson who scored the winner v Plymouth after a breakaway from an Argyle corner. Keeper saved his shot and he scored the rebound iirc.

I remember it properly kicking off after the Everton quarter final at Goodison. Hope you managed to find your small colon!

Wolves away we were trailing 1-0 from an absolute shocker from Nixon at Maine Rd. I was out in Pompey on the night of the 2nd leg in a nightclub and heard we’d won 2-0 with another City lad who had a portable transistor - both of us glued to what I reckon must have been radio 2. Going fucking mental whilst all around thought we’d had a fit. Think it was our first away win for an absolute eon of time. Think Gidman and Hinchcliffe scored, I’m sure it was an unusual pair of scorers.

Yeah I think that was for the 3-1, he had hit the post a few minutes earlier was in block J for some reason so had a good view of the second half attacks.

We had a family do that day, dirty rags in laws as well, I watched the game on teletext, brilliant game to watch in such a way, even if the sneering twats kept mentioning the division we were in every time a goal went in. I remember my old man saying to me to get used to it, as they have an always will be bitter and sad, how right he was.
