I don't like it when ale drinkers get snobby about lager. I love ale and would usually go for one I haven't seen before but lager isn't all rubbish. In fact on occasion there's little better than a nice cold lager.

Had a pint of 'Enigma' made by the Spire Brewery yesterday. It was very hoppy, not my kind of thing really but the colour was magnificent. It was really golden, more of an orange if anything. Reminded me of Irn Bru! Was a decent pint for people who like their beer hoppy but I prefer a much maltier pint.

Well thanks for memory. Taking a ferry to france in '78 and all those bloody hops in Kent made me feel sick ;)

I agree.

When it gets bloody hot you can't beat chilled lager.

Its a case of horses for courses and when in rome, do what they do ...

Unfortunately, real ale is mostly unavailable in hotter climates ....

Anyone had anything by brewdog? Had a few bottles of 'punk IPA' on Saturday, cracking stuff, quite fruity.

Punk IPA's proper stuff though I wouldn't have described it as fruity, I'd have said hoppy & bitter off the scale, which is everything I want from an IPA. I'm not saying you're wrong for saying it's fruity and we're both agreed it's a really nice drop.

-- Sun Mar 27, 2011 10:15 pm --

Acquired. That's what I'd say. Still, I do try to support local breweries.
