Nah, just got a feeling if you know what i mean.
Tenants prob could get it cheaper at bookers, when we had our boozer most of the stuff we got was cheaper in bookers than the brewery (S+N), and that was in the 90's.
Carlsberg will prob be priced in conjunction with Carlsberg even though Lees' brew their in Midd, Cant see Carlsberg letting Lees brew it then undercut them, Strongbow is bought in off Carlsberg.
Its half the price at bookers than what tenants are forced to buy it for from Lees.

BTW The Cotton in the dip, The Oak is further up practically facing Boarshaw WMC

Same with most brewery's, You can generally buy cheaper there than you can off the brewery, but the brewery have the tenant by the bollocks, pretty much the same whether its Lees, Thwaithes, Marstons, S+N etc.
You dont tenant a pub to make money these days, you do it for a roof over your head. I wouldnt take on another pub, not worth it.

Anyone had anything by brewdog? Had a few bottles of 'punk IPA' on Saturday, cracking stuff, quite fruity.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.brewdog.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.brewdog.com/</a>
Tried 77 Lager, Punk IPA and 5AM Saint. 5AM Saint's my favourite.

I want to try all their stuff! Might have to save up and order a few crates...

I agree, I know a couple of people who are doing it to live in whilst renting out property to live on

Punk IPA's proper stuff though I wouldn't have described it as fruity, I'd have said hoppy & bitter off the scale, which is everything I want from an IPA. I'm not saying you're wrong for saying it's fruity and we're both agreed it's a really nice drop.

Acquired. That's what I'd say. Still, I do try to support local breweries.

JW Lees are not what they seem now, they are bleeding local tenants dry by charging double for some beers that the tenant could get it for if they were a freehouse. They are then closing down the small pubs when the tenant's term is up and selling them to builders who knock them down and build houses or Tescos on them. They aren't interested in keeping the small boozers open and are only interested in keeping open and opening up boozers that are big places that serve food, they have recently bought a load of big pubs in Cheshire (ex punch taverns) yet are closing down pubs around here at a alarming rate, the tenant in my local is not long off leaving and we're worried that it may shut down, I've been going in there for 20 years, met my wife in there and we get our mini-bus from there before every home game. A lot of people are blaming Wetherspoons for this but Lees are certainly not helping by sucking up any profit that a potential tenant could make.

JW Lees just doing what all the big breweries did some time back.....ditching 'boozers' aka community pubs, and going where the profits are nowadays....food. Mrs Gaudino's lot, Mitchell & Butlers (nee Bass) saw the decline coming years ago and flogged all their community pubs to concentrate on foodie places like Crown Carveries, Toby, All Bar One, Browns, Sizzlers etc.

Sad, but they are a business and go where it is. People simply don't use pubs nowadays like they once did. Blame supermarket prices, taxes, the smoking ban or simply our culture has changed with the advent of far more home entertainment than we used to have....whatever, people just don't go in them like they used to no matter what. The only 'boozers' doing well are in town and city centres. Where office workers populate them at lunch time and immediately after work, and then the night time crowds come in.....but even many of them are dead midweek now too...

Foodie type 'destination' pubs are doing very well though, people want them and use them, despite what purists think or like....M&B are opening several more this year (including the recently gutted and refurbished Athaneum in town, now a Brown's)
And many of these now seeing there is a growing market out there for real ales and getting them in too. (And will credit my Mrs for going against those that laughed by putting cask ales in several of her Crown Carveries, and they are selling really well, at a decent price too.)

You can get it for £1.40 at Sainsburys and £1.50 from Tescos. So it works out at about the average price of a pint of Fosters at the local. I'd love to see it on tap in a pub somewhere. Never seen it on tap anywhere for a true comparison though.

Yeah I'd love to have some on tap. They've opened a few bars in Scotland, hopefully they can open up a few down here in the not too distant future.

Only The Knott Bar at arse end of Deansgate comes close, and seeing it's The Marbles sister pub it should, lol.

The Angel two mins from the Marble is a cracker too though....White Lion is a spectacular pint in there...
