Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Absolutely nothing wrong with the team and the system that Pep put out last night in my opinion. That's the team and system I wanted and is obviously the best we have at the moment. What would you have done?

Not had Bernardo Silva aimlessly pressing in a false 9 position off the ball and ask him to play right wing in possession. He was badly needed actually in midfield alongside Nico. i also wouldn't have had us throw so many players ahead of the ball only to then play so slowly and indirectly anyway. both those tactical decisions left us extremely vulnerable defensively and played exactly into Madrids hands. Second half when we stopped doing exactly what they wanted, their threat was significantly diminished.

Phil didn't have a good game yesterday, but I've seen nothing wrong with his engine this season. Most matches I've seen he's done more running than anyone else. You can never be sure on the tele because so much running is away from the camera but generally when I've seen him art home his 'engine' has been outstanding.
I was just talking last night so no idea why you are referencing other matches. There were plenty of times Real were breaking and he was just trotting back.

Oh and did I say, we won 2 1 at real fucking madrid
You don't need to - I was celebrating just like you were at the whistle.

But if that had been two other sides that you were watching, knowing that we were playing the winner next week, you'd hardly be quaking in your boots, would you?

Some are happy to take defensive credit for the misses by Vinicius Jr and Bellingham (for some reason left wide open in the box) - as neither are included in your shots on target stat - but others look at those and realise that you won't always get away with them.

It is possible to celebrate the win and be objective about the performance at the same time.

Ref was an absolute bottle job that shit himself because of the crowd.

The assault on Doku at the corner flag was well worthy of bringing back for a yellow. Rudiger could have had 5 yellows - a few for just being a prick. Love that Bellingham bottled his chance.

Commentators and pundits on TNT a disgrace. Making excuses for Real all night - "they have a full team missing".

If it wasn't for Courtois it would have been 6

It was ok win considering we just continue playing one half, although even the second half was meh at best. And we were positively shit until Nico scored and our best part of the game between from that moment 'till the end of the half. The saturating MF didn't work, Foden in 4-1-4-1 didn't work because he never received the ball, almost nothing worked.
It was excellent win because we are almost certain to be top eight and even more because it was against that lot who are doing everything, so you can dislike them.

We can rely on our Iberians at least.... :)

I thought we played really well last night BUT there are still too many stupid stray passes that kept giving possession back to RM. The stray pass count is the one thats been bothering me for the last season and a half
What's worse is when a player heading toward the touchline blindly plays the ball inside and right into the danger area, not only giving the ball away but taking himself out of the game also.

He was everywhere.

Brilliant result but fuck me, Pep set us up to give us as much of a handicap as possible there. Feel like we win that game by 3/4 and possibly more if we didnt play exactly how they wanted us to play.

So basically what you’re saying is that if we played the way you thought instead of how Pep did, we’d have won away at Real Madrid by a big margin?

Steady, Tiger!

Terrific result, but doesn't a statement win need a statement performance? Half a Madrid team were allowed 17 shots?

Nevertheless, always fantastic to beat them, especially there - just wish it had been the knockout stage :-)
That means nothing, only 1 single shot out of the 17 was on target. We defended brilliantly last night against one of the best teams in the world. Going forward we were excellent also if it wasn’t for cortois we could have scored 5 or 6.

If we beat palace at the weekend then I’m confident we can go on another big run of wins
