Real Madrid (A) - CL R16 Post Match thread

Gundogan not involved, but Rodri was a bit lazy/switched off for their goal. You can see from receiving the ball from Mahrez, Rodri plays a pretty lazy pass to Ota who is immediately under pressure.

Ota's touch isnt great, and neither is his return pass to Rodri, but Rodri controls and then plays a horrid square ball back to an out of position Ota. Then it all unravels. Walker should have put a stronger foot in but he's not the chief culprit here, Rodri is.
At the time I felt like Walker was getting across him and can just whack that away, haven't watched it back yet but at the time thats what it looked like.

No, it was a poor pass from Otamendi which resulted in a mistake from Rodders. Gundog was somewhere in the centre circle when it was falling apart. Starts at 2:25

Yep. Far too much power on Ota's pass for Rodri to control, then Ota stepped out too far to recieve the returning pass. Then Walker should have dealt with it. Otherwise i thought all 3 had a fantastic game.

Pressure was on last night and over the 90 mins he did just fine.
His passing sometimes looks erratic but that’s more down to his style.
I think because some have already made their minds up on him any poor pass gets amplified on here and the critics pile in quicker than they would on others.
He, like everyone else last night more than played his part in a great win.

He completed 89% of his passes, which was fractionally above average for the team last night.

A couple of his challenges were a bit rash but all in all he had another decent game in a very high pressure game. Early doors the whole team seemed to feel the pressure but settled and then largely bossed it.

So a supporter of another team comes in to say congratulations and the first thing you can think of is to be a dick?

I'll probably get banned for saying that but I thought that this forum would have a bit higher standards than posts like yours..

Yes, because reaching the final one year and then winning it the following year was dreadful for the country's coefficient.

As for getting more support why would anyone bother if this is what it leads to?

I tried to be gracious and say congratulations and two of you decided to jump on that and use it as an opportunity to try and insult or degrade me/my post.

Given I'll be banned for telling the poster from the quote above that he's being a dick I'll not have the chance but if I didn't get banned why would I come in here again to say well done about a result if all I would get in response is abuse?

Slag off everyone if you want but if that's the standards you hold yourself to then you're both letting the rest of the decent supporters in here down by lowering yourselves to the point where you have to react negatively and go on the attack when a fan from another Club tries to be nice in a post.
He was having a joke. ffs lighten up.

Plus, because Benj is seen as being the weak link in possession then the opposition double up and press him rapid style the second the ball goes out to him, which makes it doubly difficult for him.

That said, sometimes his touch and weight of pass is absolutely appalling, and consequently you can see quite often that players don’t want to pass to him, very noticeable that Kev ignores him quite regularly.

Great team performance big shouts to gundogan otamendi and especially kyle walker. Only ht and i expect some brown envelopes to be sent out via uefa in the next 2 weeks.

  1. A historic win and a great night for Manchester City FC *
  2. A narrow undeserved win against a brave and heroic Madrid side decimated by injuries to key players. City continue to be a stain on European football with potential bans looming and persistent allegations of filthy Arab oil money, sport-washing and blatant cheating. An un-named source said UEFA is considering fabricating multiple new investigations into City's very existence and raised the serious possibility of last night's result being reversed and wiped from the annals of footballing history.

This media lark is easy, lads.

Highlight of the week? Kev putting the penalty away that means they need to score at least twice in the home leg - or seeing an eagle flying next to the A3 on the way back to Alicante.

Clue - I didn't leap in the air in the car...

no doubt Walker's foot was like wet paper but his overall tracking and positioning in a situation that quickly changed was brilliant, but his tackle was crap. Rodri made a mess of it and Ota was just chaotic

you can see Bernardo throw his arms down in frustration on the right wing when Mahrez opted to go backwards and Mendy calling for it when Rodri first received it. Even Rodri's backtracking, which he did well, followed the ball (with 3 others) instead of looking up and noving right towards Isco.

was a right mess overall and Pep will let them know it
