Real Madrid (A) Post Match Thread

Still absolutely gutted about last night.

I don’t really have anything to blame. I thought the ref was ok. You can’t say we were conned out of it. We managed the game superbly for 89 minutes and a freak two minutes cost us the final.

Reflecting on this season so far though, it’s apparent we’ve fallen behind Liverpool in terms of squad depth. We desperately need a forward, a left back and a CDM to cover Rodri.

We better not lose the league now or the season is a write off.

People have short memories. We went to Madrid ten years ago with Yaya, Vinny, Dave, and conceded two in the final couple minutes to lose 3-2.

It's a cup competition and pressure can do funny things to the very best of players, seen it throughout history.

I'm not even that gutted, shocked, yes, but we didn't defend well enough over the two games in the vital moments.

We won a league title with two goals, deep in to injury time, it's why football can be incredible and cruel in equal measure.

Certain situations need to be addressed and they will be, others like the delusion Dias is a world class defender on the right with Laporte, who chokes in the biggest moments, are a worrying trend.

I think last night highlighted that we desperately need more depth and legs. Madrid were able to change their entire midfield. We brought on a 36 year old, an attacking midfielder who has to play left back etc.

The tie could have been won in the first leg, but the Champions League is a mad, unquantifiable competition where things just happen.

It's going to be an enormous effort to dust everyone down for Sunday.

Feeling worse today than last night. Still can't get my head around how we didn't close out the game with 5 mins to go. What did Pep have to say ? I went straight to bed after the final whistle.

Just woke up. What an absolute shit show. First thing I read is how amazing the Madrid fans were. Ye the same ones who were all fucking off when mharez scored! Work will be fun today anyway

You try doing your job when you know your best efforts are never going to be good enough because you're constantly getting screwed over. It gets to you, and with the added pressure of the occasion it really isn't difficult to see why he had an off game tonight.

Not everyone is perfect all of the time.
It's an excuse

Doesn't help when you needlessly take the spine of that midfield off at a key moment.
As for legs... Modric Casemiro Kroos ( combined age 100+) v Foden , Bernie and Grealish?
But it wasn't.
Ferna and Gundo were in the middle from 85 minutes and they had legs in there. Sadly Ferna gets run past all the time now. Still a great passer but he's a liability when young players have the ball in the middle of the pitch.
They brought on Camavinga and Asensio and Rodrygo and took off Modric, Casemiro and Kroos. Yeah, out of desperation but once we sacrificed Mahrez we were giving the ball away for fun as we had no width on the right.
