Real Madrid (A) Post Match Thread

A striker who wasn't a striker.

Outscoring Liverpool without a striker to speak of, winning titles in the process, suggests the lack of a striker is marginal gains at best and revisionism when it's required.

We scored five goals against Real Madrid.

We needed to score six just to take it to penalties.

That would suggest a mentality and a defensive problem, not a lack of goals in the team!
Exactly this . We were outgunned by Monaco with a on top of his game kun in the team..

we are a team of bottlers with defenders and a keeper who are rolls Royce’s when we are coasting them turn into builders vans when under the cosh.

One of the poorest examples of game management I've seen, especially from a top team. We fell apart and that is the sickener. Getting beat 3-1 over the course of the match in a different fashion would be disappointing but hey ho. To be in that position and crumble is quite honestly a complete joke.
For 89 minutes the game management was perfect with no Madrid shots on target. Also withstanding some shocking refereeing decisions. Loosing Walker & Debruyne was a big loss & once they got the goal the momentum was with Madrid, we just struggled to keep hold of the ball.

Just watched back the game from 86:00 to the end about 4 times. My god.

Courtois makes a great save with his studs and then there's a horrendous corner to put Madrid on the attack on about 89:30. The defending from then is non-existent, it's going to be horrendous viewing for the players. There are multiple times to bring it down and slow everything down. We dont. we panic to the extreme and this is pre Madrid scoring the first. The ball is at Eddie's feet on 90:01 after conceding and somehow making a mess of kick off, and Madrid are careering down our right flank on 90:30 again. There is zero control, zero shape. If you can take it I would watch it again.

gutted today.
You sicko watching that again.seriously I really couldn’t

STAND PROUD AND FUCK THE REST

let the united fans laugh and put silly post up on social media, it gives them something to shout about because their club are in a right mess ? Thursday night football again for them

stand proud

Like most the overwhelming feeling of regret is burning a hole into my soul this morning.

As is the common theme in this thread we didn’t have the legs in extra time and this probably was the difference. Ending with a midfield of rodri, gundo and fernandinho didn’t give us the drive we needed.

However let’s not go over the top, we were the better team over best legs and still got to the last 4, while playing in the final last year. Also top of the league and it’s in our hands.

Now, think how good that is and now imagine having Haaland and Alvarez added to the mix who are killers in the box.

Pep is a genius and I can’t wait to see what style we go for next season, i imagine a slight step away from the complete control and we are more dynamic in the transitions.

Obviously Dinho is going and I wouldn’t be surprised if Gundo and Sterling left, this is the time to bed some of our younger gems in and really rebuild. Pep always says you need fresh players who have that drive and hunger.

It’s still been an incredible ride and let’s absolutely smash the ball out the park over the next 4 days!

Come on city, Chelsea and Real Madrid!

I dont see us as a team of bottles we beat the dippers by winning our last 14 games or so a few seasons ago.

This happens in football we have won the league with Aguerooooooooo now we are on the receiving end, that's football

Can someone explain to me why they don't just pause time when the ball goes out of play?
It'll stop all this time wasting shite.
football would irrevocably change. it would become a far slower game and if it did retain some pace, more subs would be introduced to facilitate that. It would change the entire complexion of the game. I suppose you could introduce stopping the clock for any injury or 'injury' perhaps? but not other out of play stuff like corners, throw ins and the like.

Easy answer
I trust Ake more than Laporte
Ake has never let us down, is quicker and has great positional awareness whereas Laporte has been half the player he was since that nasty knee injury a few years ago
I posted something similar about Ake in a MOTM thread after some game or other. He reads the game very well, for me he is quietly efficient and gets the job done without any of the histrionics you sometimes get with Laporte.
