Real Madrid (A) Post Match Thread

We are very good at game management and keeping possesion to kill a game, one of the best. Last night we did it for the last 15 minutes .
Then they scored and we didn't, panic and nerves set in , it's that simple they are human , it has nothing to do with tactics or game management, plain simple human instinct at a time of stress, it happens.
Really lost the plot in closing minutes ..magnitude of it ...got to the players...they are human.. their crowd pushing smelling a weakness. One thing for sure we need that old ' shout for the lads...from the rooftops...100% effort needed by the fans now...the players and staff need us more than ever... what about a non stop 10 minute on our feet ovation next game.. old 'ens will join in for that as well.. scarfs swirling other half clapping and roaring non stop. We can do this and they deserve it.

winning mentality and performing under incredible pressure is a thing in CL and we are not great in those situations.

and we do concede goals in quick successions if you look back our CL exits under Pep in Monaco fuck up, Lyon fuck up, Real fuck now, Spurs fuck up.

our defending certainly isnt calm, chaos takes over, and we dont even do the basics like jumping up with the attacker, trying to block a cross.

dont get me started on our conversion rate of chances. Foden, Mahrez, Grealish did have the chances to win this tie for City first and second leg combined. they scored 2 goals combined only what should have been 4-5 really.
an older version of Kayky called Rodrygo came in as sub and scored two out of two under pressure like this in 90th minute.

Kun missed the pen in Spurs away first leg in CL.
Benzema had two pens vs City, both under huge pressure, scored a Panenka last week and sent the keeper the wrong way yesterday.

you cannot have these and still win CL.
The thing is when we went 1-0 up Madrid had nothing to lose and they had the crowd, you can't underestimate that impact. We've done this ourselves in the past and we were in this exact same situation against QPR. It was the crowd and push for the title that got us over that line when really we should of lost it.

Let's not forget that we did more than enough to win this tie, we've put 5 past the Spanish champions over two legs. We've also scored and was defending a lead at a place where only one English team has won over the years (and that's us!). We must be one of the only teams in history to go to Madrid as the obvious favourite.

Despite this when you lose it a bit the only difference is how good your opposition are and unfortunately in the last few minutes of the game they had 2 shots and scored both. On another day they'd miss and we'd be through just as Aguero or Dzeko could of missed against QPR.... I don't think there's anything we could of done differently.

Obviously gutted, its taken me until now to come on here because I knew what was coming. Minor things which if done differently may have helped, De Bruyne was poor last night, but even so you just cant bring him off in a game like this, he and Foden are two players who can take a game by the scruff of the neck and win it on their own.

Walker was terrific, but when he had to come off, Ake should have come on to replace him not Zin. We needed defenders on the pitch at that point not more quasi midfielders. Ake on at left back and the cross for the second goal doesn't happen.

Zinchenko was a better choice than Fernandinho when Rodri, who was knackered, came off. Brilliant though Fern has been his legs are truly gone :(

I'm aware of the irony in this in that Zin and Gundog were instrumental in the goal, but that doesn't change my view overall
Aren't Kev and Ake both carrying injuries

Worst thing for me is knowing nothing will change. Next season we’ll likely bow out of the competition in an embarrassing fashion, and we’ll all talk of a rebuild being needed yet nothing will come of it

Lack of a counter-attacking threat cost us over the two legs. Kev was trying to get on the end of passes in behind, instead of delivering them.

When the game gets chaotic and teams go gung-ho at us; we get big oppertunities to counter that we are not making the most out of. I think this is why we wanted Haaland over Kane.

I'm not blaming Grealish and maybe in future seasons he will shine, but that money should of been spend on a proven forward first. We only ever needed to break the bank for a top forward, You didn't need to be a rocket scientist to know that, yet we still went into the season without a centre forward and its biting us on the arse big time. I call it complacency.
Love Jack, but his honeymoon is well and truly over. The next step for him is to start scoring goals - something he's never really done in his entire career. Can he suddenly become a goalscoring midfielder ? The curtain is closing on Gundo's time as a starter and Ferna's time with us, now time for Jack to cut the outside crap and be a worthy support act for Phil and Kevin... and hopely Haaland.......

The more i think back the more i think that our players just totally froze after the first goal.

Didn't close down the cross, didn't go for the header, didn't bother attempting to save. Just froze
That was the game up, some of our players looked like they'd shit themselves when the camera was on them at the end of normal time and early in extra time
