Real Madrid (A) Post Match Thread

I'm broken, completely. I don't blame the ref. He was a standard UCL ref. I don't blame Pep.

When you have Gillingham and QPR you're gonna also get them against you. If you don't experience pain them how can you ever know pleasure.

My 11 year old is crying.

Right now, this feels like it is the anti-Gillingham or anti-93:30oment because of how much was on the line, and how intense the shift was.

But it isn't. If the dippers dontue quad it could be. But we're not there yet. Real winning is just a natural background occurrence that happens over the years.

Other than that, we ate still in a very healthy position. We can finish the league. And have a bloody exciting next year to look fwd to.

Rubbish. You're going to be dreaming for a long time then.

It's a fraud of a competition, designed to attract football tourists and benefit the UEFA 'elite'. It attracts little interest from most regular supporters until the knockout rounds. You only have to look at the level of take-up for the CL scheme by season ticket holders.

Domestic competition is infinitely better. I'd much rather City be champions of our own country than winners of a bent competition.
Nah!

S/T holders may not go cos of the inconvenience of late mid week games and to save money. The seats are taken up by others

As much as we love Domestic Cups they now stand for little compared to a CL win.

PL & CL are the 2 biggest titles in Club football.

We can't disregard 1 just cos we haven't won it.

What pisses me off is we could quite easily be going for our 3rd CL win in 6 years yet we have none.

Plucked up the courage to watch the highlights.

No way in a million years do we get that penalty, not a fuckin chance.

As bad as our game management was that decision fuckin stinks.

The 1 in the first leg was soft too.
Just hope uefa want Real to win the cup and stitch the dippers up like they did to us

We will be signing a midfielder and a left back.
the left back is interesting.....I know we can say very little on this as there is an ongoing legal case but it would suggest that Mendy aint returning.

For me we needed a left back the year after Mendy joined as he clearly was really poor defensively so good news that we are looking for someone

I can think of 2 positives from last night.

No World Club Mickey Mouse shite next season.

I was thinking Pep May leave to take a break if he was to win the CL.

I've honestly don't know what you're on about Pingu. Probably because I'm an FOC.

All I'm saying is that our press was non-existent last night, and Pep gambled on KDB and lost.
KdB ran the show in the first leg and has been playing out of his skin. There's literally been no other midfielder on earth who has been better than him in recent weeks! If they had scored early on, KdB is EXACTLY the player who will summon up something special to win the game for you.

I'm a big Gundogan fan and thought he was great when he came on last night, but I'll be honest - even when Gundogan is on top form, he is not a patch on KdB.

I don't think the game last night rested on whether Pep picked KdB or not. KdB didn't have his best game, that's fair, but the game was lost by 3 goals in 7 minutes or so. Not even Pele, Maradona and Cryuff can stop that kind of capitulation.

I don't think the press was the problem, it was down to a collapse in belief once they scored the first goal. There's certain players who could've done a LOT more to prevent the goals - in both legs - and we know who they are. But last night wasn't down to Pep or KdB.

Abysmal showing in this competition far too often

Real have won it more than anyone, and they're about 1/6, with a very intense period in the early years and the 10s, but the key is to always be in and around the quarters or semis and every generation gets to win one. You'd have to ask a middle aged Real fan if that takes the edge off losing it like we did, but I suspect it does, we just need to keep getting in and around those positions.

55 years of watching football and that is the first time I have witnessed corruption on the field of play by a referee. It may have happened before but I've not witnessed it.
I won't get into the corruption of the referee, not interested in it. But he fundamentally dictated the game. If he books Casemiro for the foul on Kev in the 6th/7th minute as he's supposed to it's a completely different game. Casemiro can't later on rugby tackle Phil, and he can't influence the game as he did. It's just abysmal by the ref that he didn't do his job properly, but then booked Laporte and Modric for basically nothing a few seconds/minutes later. You do wonder.

I'll add I'm not blaming the referee for our implosion in injury time, that had nothing to do with the referee or Pep, that was on the players and players alone, and down to Real not giving it up when 95% of sides would've by then.

Have you seen the equipment used to monitor players during training and games?

Pep would have been fully aware of KDB's condition, and opted to play him.

Given that many fans have expressed doubts over the shape and general level of fitness of KDB this season, I suspect that Pep gambled on him making an early impact.

KDB has clearly been playing at less than 100% all season. If he's been declaring himself fit (as he is believed to have done in the past for Belgium), Pep may well be overruling technical information.

Just shows he may have a lack of trust in his squad imo, and is desperate to win the CL.
I don’t know, KDB has been pretty outstanding for the last couple months with an occasional off game. This was the biggest game of the season. You have to play the best guys.

I think Real Madrid have a chance in the final. I was impressed with them last night and whilst they didn’t have shots on target until the end, they looked very dangerous at times and for the first 15 mins of each half were definitely the better side. I saw enough over both legs to see why they win their league and do so well.

Fair comment, but the buck must stop with the coach.

You’re selling a third of the squad and picking the team with no insight. That’s what I’m saying
