Real Madrid (A) Post Match Thread

You shouldn't need to put a tin hat on mate. Anyone without their blue tinted specs on should be able to see that Ederson is no better at shot stopping than Claudio Bravo. He's only there to play sweeper and kick the ball a long way every now and then.

Bravo is a different situation and discussion but he was affected by a poor start that had a lot to do with be left exposed and opponents having relatively easy chances.

Ederson's saves to shots ratio is one of the best in the league. He is not a significant cause of us losing games but he is a significant part of us winning most of the time.

Yeah that’s just not at all true. Ederson is leagues apart from Bravo in the shot stopping department.
out of interest what goal are we putting down to being Edersons fault.

There has been a lot of griping the last few days and I get that but some of the comments being directed to Ederson, De Bruyne and pep are bordering on the outlandish now.
That’s not aimed at you by the way Lavinda.

not streetwise enough, last ten mins, run the ball to the corner, go down, waste time, get free kicks, waste more time, roll round on the floor, this is a team of seasoned pros unable to kill a game off, when you get to that stage of the competition spanish, italian, germans will use every dirty trick in the book where we play by the rules and continue to get shafted

It’s like the final last year.

I, and many others knew the game was over as soon as the team sheet came out.

Just like the other night, knew it was over as soon as they started peppering our goal at 89 mins. I said to my mrs in front of the telly and to my mates on a group chat “we’re losing this game”.
Come on then, let’s see the screen grab??

Which is why we needed someone to take the heat out of the situation. Booting it back to them only invited more pressure on. As well as Jack did when he came on and I know he's not a defender but could he have done more to stop the cross coming in for their second?
It's gone now anyway ( thankfully it wasn't the Final) , I often wonder do the players get as annoyed as the fans after something like this happens, I suppose Sunday will tell us more
But that’s not a leadership thing. It’s down to an experienced player doing the wrong thing in a situation that he will have been in numerous times before. Sometimes we have to accept the players make mistakes and that’s not down to the manager or leaders.

I’ll guarantee that before Liverpool’s game, Klopp and the senior players would constantly have repeated the mantra “whatever we do, don’t concede an early goal”. And yet they did. And then another. They were just fortunate that they had time to turn things round and their players weren’t injured or exhausted.

But if you look at how we have conceded crucial goals, they often come down our right. Think Chelsea in CL final, United when they broke and Fat Shaw scored, Spurs this season at Etihad and Madrid 2nd at Etihad-all pretty similar.
Cancelo is just not good defensively...there's really nothing to debate...on the first Real goal he breaks the line for no obvious reason even though he is facing Dias, Laporte, etc. and keeps Benzema on after the attacker had left much too soon...a simple rule of thumb is that if you break your defensive line to keep an attacker on you better be sure you track and mark the runner...Cancelo did neither...he kept Benzema on then floated about aimlessly and casually...inexcusable at any level, but in a CL semi final, criminal...took the same casual approach he took against Kulusevski in Spurs game that led to Kane's header...an excellent attacking fullback but has no business being on the pitch in big shutdown moments...

Eddie is an average shot stopper at best and not the best decision maker...hopeless on pens...

Despite that we have been outstanding again this year and if we go on to hold on for the league I’d absolutely consider this another great season.
I trust Pep/Txiki/Ferran to do the business once again this summer in terms of getting the correct personnel in
We've made it difficult for ourselves though, hence the typical City comments.
Six points each from Arse and Chavs but dropping points against Palace and Saints.

Oh come on. We were home and hosed but for Cancelo and Ederson.
We could have played another hour with what was left on the field and we weren't scoring.
No leadership on or off the field at that stage
Sure the officials were shite but they are not the reason we imploded.
2 goal lead with 89 mins on the clock.
Just let that sink in for a minute.
You could have said that about RM after 89 minutes, no shots on goal ?, but any team fights to the end as we have shown in the past, those last 15 minutes of extra time were horrendous and the officials allowed it to happen, their actions were questionable only allowing 5 minutes and 35 seconds of play is ridiculous, as we saw when KDB and Phil being dragged down by his shirt by the same player, and no booking, when he should have been been booked on the first foul. The officiating throughout this competition has to be questioned, its not right.
This is no excuse for the two quick goals they scored against us, but you have the right to play until the end.

He's alright defensively at left-back imo, but at right-back he always concerns me. Ever since he got sent off against Brighton last season, and probably even before that. It's like the change of angle confuses him and he doesn't know which way to point. Really good player, wouldn't ever get rid of him because of what he brings, and is well in the argument for being the best LB in the league this season, but I hope we sign a right-back this summer so that he never has to replace Walker again.

Wow, I thought he was carrying some minor niggle

Hmmm... Kev looked a bit off the pace but still surprising he took him off

Anyway it's done. Focus on the last 4 games
