A lot has been said about our approach to the game, but what about theirs ? Didn’t they play away legs first against us Chelsea & PSG last season, and Liverpool/Chelsea this season. I know this isn’t new ground for them, but they might not open up as much as some are expecting, they are used to going away and opening up the game first, and turning it into a shootout, the fact they’re at home first combined with our improved game management & sturdier defence, could see it end up a cagey affair decided by moments of genius

Last season we should have been out of sight in the first leg, only injury to Walker Cancelo’s suspension gave us a huge Achilles heel. Stones injury didn’t help matters. Even still we should have been clear. We defended badly and were pretty profligate in attack. Only Vinicius’s pace and Benzema’s exceptional form kept them in the tie.

Real are still very strong but pretty inconsistent everywhere bar the champions league. Rodrygo and Vinicius have improved, they’ve added Rudiger so they shouldn’t be as open.

Even still if we can produce the level of performance last season while adding Haaland and defensive solidity then it should be good enough over the two legs.

Real Madrid away in a CL semi is arguably the hardest away game in world football, but we are in great form and I think we have every chance of getting a result. With that said, we need a top performance to do so.
With Ake out I think the same XI we had against Arsenal is very possible.

Ederson
Walker-Stones-Dias-Akanji
Rodri-Gundogan
Bernardo-KDB-Grealish
Haaland

1-3 City!
I have bad memories from last year. Id switch Akanji’s and Walker’s positions. I expect a 2 goal difference win, 0-2 or 1-3.

I can only remember one in the CL (the red card in the dead rubber group game against Leipzig).

Other than that where it wasn’t even a big game, Walker has probably been City’s most consistent big game player I can ever remember.

All his other shit games or moments have come in games like Wigan away in the FA Cup, Palace at home in the league etc.
Just off the top of my head, he gifted Madrid their goal in the 18-19 tie at the Bernabeu, the 3-0 beatdown from Liverpool he was arguably responsible for both their goals bar the Oklade screamer from outside the box. I can't really remember the Tottenham tie that well but I know Laporte and Walker let Son run rampant.
