Reasonably priced laptop

21 to 24" are the most popular sizes now. All depends on how far you sit from it, how much you use it, gaming etc.

They start cheap, under £100 for a 21", and can go up a lot.

21" laptop under £100 - must be second hand ?!

Most of the laptops I have seen do not have CD/DVD drive - how do people get around this if wanting to watch DVD or blue ray videos?

With aftercare, is it best to buy from the manufacturer directly or go through retail like Currys/PC world or Laptopsdirect ?

My error. You said PC which I took you meant a desktop. A laptop is still technically a PC and in a laptop thread should have assumed that.

PC World KnowNowt is shocking. I used them once to install a washing machine and the guy didn't know which way to turn the stopcock. Reckon it'll be hit and miss as to their quality of service if needed. I've never used a 3rd party to help with computer problems, maybe others can advise.

Also, CD and DVD drives are less common in new laptop designs as they take up a lot of space. You can buy external drives for very little but don't know what the quality is like for watching movies as they'd need USB so might not be fast enough for Blu-ray. Again someone else might know.

Good morning everyone. We are thinking of getting a new lap top for my primary school age child. They have been using my old one. I've looked on line and you don't seem to get microsoft office installed with it but have to buy it separately and it seems to be a yearly subscription. I'm sure it was free and already installed when I bought my last one. i don't want to pay a yearly fee. Any ideas/thoughts on this?

It is free for students.
I think you can do a check online
or you could ask the school.

Currys 'after care' or their 'knowhow' team are non existant.

chromebook

Mine needs replacing, whats about for around £300? I mainly just browse but I prefer the idea of a laptop rather than a chrome book.

My review of this is don't
I have an Ideapad and only use it for mucking about on the net, or streaming. It takes an age to boot up and the battery life isn't great, plus you have to have the screen at the exact angle or it's really poor

We bought my daughter an HP 15s-FQ0008HA for Uni and she loves it

Quoting my own post, how sad!

As I said. We bought my daughter an HP for around your budget and it does everything perfectly
This is what's on Amazon for the price you're looking at and it has very good reviews
